Studies suggest that EVs have a lower fire risk than conventional vehicles. A 2020 Tesla report claimed their vehicles were about 10 times less likely to catch fire than average ICE vehicles. . WDYT

fire risk indicates being consumed by fires from outside, while what EVs suffer from is battery explosion risk, which is internal by definition.
So this is a classical case of "cooking the books" or "lying with statistics."

(Happy Teacher's day !!) Who was your favourite teacher? What made them your favourite? 🏫🎒

In Russia Teacher's Day is celebrated in October.
There were no favorites at school, but the university really liked the teachers in constitutional law, economics and statistics, English, psychology and sociology.

When I failed statistics due to missing my final exam during freshman year of college, I ended up taking the class again during the summer just to get it over with and pass. I thought it would be easy since I already took that class before and was doing decently until I missed my final exam but I was wrong. We had to do a lot of labs, the class was fast paced, and I didn’t remember much. We could’ve worked with partners on the labs and turn them in so I thought this was a perfect opportunity to “work” with someone and have someone else do all the labs. But people caught on to what I was trying to do and didn’t want to work with me if I wasn’t going to put in any effort. I ended up dropping the class and haven’t taken statistics since.

What’s something interesting you’ve learned of/about recently? 💁

The “White ” population in the UK is over 80% and “White British (identifying as English, Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish, or British) is over 74%.
The “Asian” population is about 9%, and other ethnicities much less.
I checked the statistics having seen someone here on Ask calling themself “Templar” (often a term used by ethno-nationalists) bringing up the Great Replacement Theory (though not using that term) so beloved of the far right, neo-naz*s and their ilk.
I mean personally, who cares if eventually in hundreds of years races mix more and humans gradually change how they look and so on, but some people are terrified of this idea that “pure” white people will eventually die out.
I hope fascism dies out, is what I hope.

Do you self-sabotage?

I do, especially when I’ve been doing so good in a certain area or class and then let my OCD get the best of me as my intrusive thoughts take over and I can’t seem to think about anything school related when that tends to happen. I’ve failed statistics freshman year of college because I forgot to take my final exam due to being sleep deprived that day (so I took a nap) and thinking about the possibility of being contaminated as I was walking by and into the grocery store when I had a final to take that day. The whole day, I thought about whether or not a part of me was contaminated while trying to move on from the thought (which hardly ever works) so I let the time pass by without a care in the world when it came to my classes. I later realized that I missed it but I was naive and didn’t really know what college was like so I thought I could make up for the exam I missed and somehow still have a chance at passing the class when I didn’t. I took the class again during summer break but couldn’t remember what I learned in statistics from the start of last semester and I had to complete a lot of labs in such a short amount of time so I dropped out of that class and didn’t take it again. I then couldn’t continue with the field of health sciences as a result of being irresponsible and self sabotaging.

What’s the hardest news you’ve had to tell someone?

alexapars’s Profile Photoalexapars
The day that I realized I didn’t take my final exam in statistics was probably the hardest news that my dad received from me during my freshman year as a college student because he was paying for my tuition and kept telling me how important the final exam was. Being a freshman in college, I genuinely didn’t know how important the final exam was since I didn’t read the syllabus and still neglect to read the syllabus to this day so thinking that the professor would let me take it later, I brushed it off and tried to convince myself that everything would be ok. After realizing that the professor wasn’t going to let me take my final exam on another day, I kept my mouth shut but my dad eventually found out and he was very disappointed in me to say the least. All of my efforts to pass the class went down the drain and I had to take the class during summer break if I wanted to continue in the field of health sciences so I did. At that point, I forgot more than half of the things I learned throughout the semester and it was harder to turn in my work so I dropped the class and decided that it’s fine if I chose not to continue with health sciences. To this day, I still disappoint my dad with my poor work ethic but at least I’m more responsible and aware of what not to do so I’m glad that I’m no longer a naive freshman in college who thinks their final exam isn’t that important.

Do you have any people at your office who like to put their work off on others then take the credit? We have someone in mgmt like that who came up by kissing butt

I have yet to work in an office but I’ve tried doing something similar by attempting to work with a classmate in my statistics class during summer break after freshman year of college as I failed to take my final exam and couldn’t pass the class the semester before. I agreed to working together on the labs but I was thinking of making my classmate do all the labs while I sat back and did nothing (since I already took the class and forgot more than half of what I learned throughout the semester). They caught onto what I was doing and said that they didn’t want to “work” with me if they were going to do all the work, which I thought was fair and I shortly after decided to drop the class because I had so much work & learning to do in the span of 6 weeks while I was also taking another summer class.

How do/ did you find out where you belong? Explain how.

You find out where you belong through trial and error. I myself haven’t found exactly where I belong just yet but I do know what I’m passionate about (art, writing, and music) so I spend my days listening to music, sometimes drawing as well and have decided to major in English because I wanted to improve my writing and writing is something I want to focus on for the rest of my life. It didn’t happen overnight tho and I still have dreams of becoming a teacher one day but after failing statistics and not being able to get a degree in the field of health sciences unless I passed statistics made me give up on pursuing a career in the field of health sciences and I switched to studio arts instead. Then, I failed the beginning stages of drawing class and decided that maybe it’s best to make a switch again and found English to be convenient, since I knew I was an introvert and could see myself writing and/or editing works for the rest of my life. All I have to do now is to find more likeminded individuals to continue my passion while being surrounded by those who can motivate me to work harder and to not give up on my dreams.

Did you enjoy working from home during the pandemic? We began remote work in 2020 and returned to the office in 2022. While we had the option to continue working remotely, some of us, myself included, decided to go back. Personally, I didn't find working remotely enjoyable.I felt isolated and lonely

For a while, I did like being home all the time during the pandemic but eventually, I started craving real life human interactions and couldn’t find the motivation to continue doing well academically so I ended up failing two classes (which I will always remember and regret). My mental health was getting worse, which was the main reason I missed my statistics final exam and inevitably failed. I tried taking the class again during summer break back then and it was much harder to keep up with turning in assignments and remembering the things I’ve learned so far so I dropped out and never ended up passing that class. I’ll be taking all online courses next semester but this time, I’m hoping that the outcome will be different, knowing that a few years have gone by since I failed statistics and that I’m more serious about my future now.

What, in your opinion, are the most crucial things for the average person to understand about urban planning and urban planners in general? Why? 🏢🚏

anonamouse89887’s Profile Photoanonamouse
One thing is that urban planning is very much shaped by politics. Yes, urban planners can bring forth facts, statistics and opinions but it's still the politicians' call. So if there is anything you want to change in your nearby area, read up on what the stances of your local politicians are and make sure to vote for who you like. Local elections generally shape your life much more than state elections. It frustrates me how people don't know who their local officials are and end up not keeping them accountable for their decisions. Heck, I've seen multiple times how people blame the local opposition, just cause it is their party who has formed the state government 🥴🗳️

I can confirm that each of the ages offered can equal two and that arithmancy comes from "arithmós" which means "number" and "manteíā" which means "divination." I can also confirm that Greek music is criminally underrated, statistics are statistically flawed and New Age hippie nonsense is as interesting to me as an open-casket funeral with a missing corpse. This will be my final msg about this, I appreciate your responses even tho I wildly disagree with most of what you say. I got my stats from this Scientific American article - https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-science-is-clear-gun-control-saves-lives/

You are free to disagree with the US Constitution, facts, data and well-documented statistics but ignoring them will not strengthen your position or solve the problem. With respect to the article, it contains a great deal of disinformation and skewed data. It was obviously written from a biased point of view and the information which I have presented is readily available on Google from a multitude of sources. I would advise you to do more research and not base your opinions on one slanted source. A good day to you...

I don’t think there’s an “irrational fear of guns”. American children are being shot dead at school. Guns kill more children each year than auto accidents. More children die by gunfire in a year than on-duty police officers and active military members. This is horrific, absolutely horrific

> I don’t think there’s an “irrational fear of guns”.
What we choose to "think" is largely irrelevant. This is not a discussion of personal opinion but rather, an evaluation of what is being said and who is saying it. When we examine the actions and sentiments of gun control proponents, we can clearly recognize that they have an irrational phobia and most of their conclusions are based purely on emotion.
> American children are being shot dead at school.
Would we feel better if they were *purposely* run over by a deranged individual like the six innocent people who were k!lled in Waukesha? How about the eight people who were k!lled (with eleven injured) in a similar incident in NYC? Both of those incidents were *intentional* and there have been numerous others like them. Suppose some lunatic wanted to plow his vehicle through a playground or a crowd of people (as we have seen in the UK, France and in other countries)? Should we ban vehicles too because they could be used as deadly weapons? While driving is a *privilege* in most countries (including the US), the ownership and use of firearms is a constitutional *right* in this country.
> Guns kill more children each year than auto accidents.
I'm afraid you're wrong. In 2019, over 1,000 children (12 and under) were k!lled in auto related accidents. In 2020, that number skyrocketed to over 4,000 (children and teenagers). The data isn't available for 2021 but crashes are a leading cause of death for children in the US - far more than firearm related incidents.
> More children die by gunfire in a year than on-duty police officers and active military members.
Objectively false. Last year, nearly 500 law enforcement officers and about 14,000 military since 2006 (an average of nearly 900 per year). Total average per year, roughly 1,400 law enforcement and military compared to 1,200 children (of which nearly *80%* are suicides). I'm afraid that the data and statistics disprove your argument. Interestingly enough, roughly 400 children drown to death in swimming pools every year. Where is the outrage? Let me know if we need "common sense pool reform" too.
> This is horrific, absolutely horrific
Yes, I couldn't agree more. However, this is exactly why we should examine the data and refrain from making false statements in order to support a radical / *unconstitutional* agenda. Yes, there is a phobia when it comes to firearms and it won't be cured with lies, propaganda and emotional appeals. To conclude, if gun control advocates had any desire to protect children (which they do not), they could follow my city's example and place Safety Agents in every school. But don't hold your breath. For all of their constant virtue signalling, they don't give a damn about children. If they did, this matter would've been addressed and rectified decades ago. Their real aim is to confiscate firearms and leave us weak / vulnerable. When firearms are outlawed, only outlaws have firearms.

Personal opinion: Guns don't k*ll people. It's not a gun control problem, it's a mental health problem and THAT'S what needs to be addressed.

There are several issues to consider. Let's take gun control. Chicago has some of the most restrictive measures in place and that city also has one of the *highest* rates of firearm related crimes in the entire country. Obviously, gun control is not the answer or that city would be a peaceful paradise. Simply put, criminals do not care about laws and as Chicago has demonstrated, time and time again, those who wish to use firearms for illegal purposes *WILL* continue unabated. Furthermore, restrictions remove firearms from the hands of law-abiding citizens. Civilians are left vulnerable and easy targets for armed criminals. Why some people continue to ignore these two blatantly obvious realities truly baffles me. Let's also consider the fact that most mass shootings occur in designated "gun-free zones." It should be no surprise that an armed criminal would choose to prey on people who have no means to defend themselves. Knee-jerk "solutions" and emotional appeals for more restrictive measures are utterly ridiculous, *unconstitutional* and downright childish. With respect to mental healthcare / related issues, I would agree that we are not doing enough. We also have a huge problem with drugs in this country and it is largely ignored. To what extent has that problem been a contributing factor? There are several studies and statistics but they are largely ignored too. America does not have "a gun problem" - we have a problem holding criminals accountable, providing adequate mental healthcare, constantly vilifying those who risk their lives to protect ours and supporting authoritarians who trample on our *constitutional* rights. As a resident of NYC where crime is high, resources are limited and gun control is more restrictive than it has ever been, we have managed to get one thing right: school shootings are practically nonexistent. Why? Because we had enough sense to put Safety Agents in schools with direct access to NYPD. If this country really wanted to prevent such horrors, there are plenty of former military and law enforcement officers who could provide security in every school. It is a practical solution and if it can work in this city, it can work anywhere. It's time to put our feelings aside and implement logical solutions which can save lives: armed security, metal detectors, quick access to mental healthcare for those who need it and allowing people to defend themselves and their communities in accordance with The Second Amendment.

Why is this pandemic making people worse?

It's something no one was truly prepared for. No one thought it would happen!
Some people are scared. Some are still in denial that it exists despite the blaringly obvious factual statistics :/
Others take advantage of the fact people are scared and prey on that. Thankfully they are a minority in comparison!

Do you believe that good/bad karma exists?

Karma as a spiritual force, no. But I would argue being a good person will oftentimes (but not always) lead to others being good to you. Bad people, however, even the scales by cheating. So even if being a good person helped you out, bad people have means at their disposal to help them too.
I think social karma exists. People see someone doing good and positive acts and the karma passes onto other people.
Example:
You are more likely to tip at the counter if the person ahead of you already tipped.
The same goes for bad karma. You know how if one person doesn't acknowledge a situation (like a fight in public or a homeless person asking for change) that the rest of them usually do the same?
It works like that. I don't believe in a metaphysical force though. If it existed there would be a lot of homeless hedge fund bankers.
Karma probably doesn't exist. It's a very comforting thought, knowing that the bad guy gets punished and the good guy eventually gets a reward. Unfortunately, the world just doesn't work like that.
I don't think the universe keeps a numerical value like reddit does, but some people get what's coming to them, and others are on the side of the angels, they're just good people.
If you're nice to people, people will be nice to you. That's how humans work. If you're nasty to people, people on the whole will be nasty to you/ignore you. Again, that's how humans work. If you're mean to people and then get hit by a truck, that's just an unfortunate (or fortunate for everyone else) coincidence.
I don't believe in karma, I believe in statistics. If you're a good person and always do nice things, statistically more good things will happen to you. I don't believe there is some system keeping count of the good things people do.

Is it a red flag or intimidating for a 23 year old to have been in 4 relationships?

It depends, too many factors at play. But it does provide an insight in terms of possible issues.
My ex-partner proudly claimed that he's had the number of relationships equivalent to his age then. It should've been a red flag for me. No true man will present those statistics like trophies.

Read the books of June, Parveen, Wasi, and other Urdu poets. If you analyze Google's statistics, Pakistan will be one of the countries where pornography is the most popular. Even if you travel from Khyber to Karachi, even if the woman is passing by wearing a shuttlecock burqa, the men around her will keep staring at her until she turns the corner of the street and disappears from sight. You can talk to anyone and see, after every two sentences, there will be insults on the genitals of mother and sister. If you listen to the statements of religious preachers and scholars, they will have shed light on the size of the ups and downs of better maidens. You will also see Pakistani dramas, novels, digests, movies, this love affair, and will be revolving around love affairs. You should also read the newspaper every day and see if someone has abused the BB or if someone has abused the BB, little children, even the honor of the corpses in the grave will not be found safe. You won't find any mention of science documentaries, life on Mars, or robots, no discussion of Nietzsche, Russell, Einstein, or philosophy. Imagine that the film Jinnah on Quaid-e-Azam was made by a British production house, and the Kingdom of Heaven film by Salahuddin Ayubi was made by Hollywood. We have never been able to get Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, to make a film or documentary on our history that we can present to the world beyond pride. We put ban on Hollywood movies, but in the name of stage dramas, nothing else was shown.
Imagine for a second you were transposed into the karmic driven world of Earl. Make a car, bank balance, so that when the youth is over, then the thought of marriage, that is, the virgin who is more than half her age, keeps wandering. The burden of dowry on girls is different. If it is a recognized fact that sexual gratification is a basic human need, and unless this basic human need is met, man cannot concentrate fully on other creative works, he suffers from mental disorders. Why refuse to believe? How long will we continue to produce poets, lunatics, madmen, and grieving generations instead of Newton, Einstein, Bill Gates? How long are we going to force young people to spend two out of four days of life wishing and waiting for the other two days? What science of the world, what psychology of the world, would call this society right? Who are we trying to deceive? Who are we trying to lie to? What kind of system of life is this where the expression and fulfillment of basic human needs is restricted? When all the doors of truth and truthfulness are closed, then everything is still there, but under the guise of hypocrisy, every person claims to be an angel And no human being can be found even by searching.

🚹 What is one thing society could do to improve life for men?

Encourage men with mental health problems to seek help and speak to someone. It's a lot more likely for men to internalise than to go to therapy or their doctor, cause men are shamed for sharing their emotions and told to 'man up' or they feel as though they need to be strong all the time and not show any "weakness". Men aged 45-49 have the highest suicide rate in the UK and statistics show that men in this country are three times more likely to die from an attempt than women 🙁

Why do people that never go Uni become some of the most successful people ever?

Froyston Afonso
*some* people. Anecdote is not evidence. Of course there will always be people who skip education who do well, and educated people who drop out, but overall the statistics definitely point to people with a better education being more successful. It's not a requirement, but it certainly helps.

Summary of the COVID agenda
Virus lethality:
Statistics throughout the West indicate that...
- COVID has a 99.9% survival rate for all people under 70.
- COVID has a 99.98% survival rate for healthy people under 70.
- COVID has a 99.993% survival rate for healthy people under 60.
- COVID has a 99.9993% survival rate for healthy people under 40
- ~90% of COVID deaths are among people with pre-existing medical conditions.
- Over ~80% of COVID deaths are among the over 70s.
- Only ~7% of COVID deaths are among the under 60s.
- COVID isn't literally "just the flu" but, for all intents and purposes, it is a slightly worse version of the flu.
Death/case statistics:
- Many COVID tests are not reliable, leading to overinflated case numbers.
- Death statistics are massively overinflated in most countries due to being recorded as deaths "with COVID" and not "from COVID."
- In many countries, people who die within weeks or even months of a "positive" COVID test is recorded as a COVID death, regardless of the actual cause of death.
"Protective" measures:
- Masks are essentially useless.
- Masks cause psychological and physical harm.
- Lockdowns are absolutely useless.
- Lockdowns are being used to strategically destroy the Middle Class and small business, while enriching the elite.
- Vaccines will not stop the virus, no matter how many "boosters" people take.
- Vaccines were never necessary to stop the virus.
- Vaccines cause ADE / disease enhancement, making people more likely to die from various diseases.
- Vaccines causes heart failure and have killed and maimed countless people worldwide.
- Elites only want to "vaccinate" the masses to implement "vaccine passports", ostensibly to track who has been "vaccinated."
- "Vaccine passports" are digital identities.
- Forcing everyone to use a "digital identity" is the lynchpin of the New World Order social credit system, based on the Internet of Things, which will soon evolve into the Internet of Bodies.

Do you think the stigma associated with single mothers is STILL alive in today's society, though not it's not as prevalent as it used to be?

i mean yeah lol. it’s funny how single dads, even ones who aren’t true single dads and just see their kids in the weekends, are drooled over and praised and told how great they are.
yet if a woman is a single mom she’s locked down upon. seen as damaged goods. blamed for being left, essentially, with the child. ridiculed. thrown in a pot of statistics w her childrens suffering being the focal point.
when’s the last time you heard “children of dads that LEFT and choose not to be present in their lives cause issues in children” versus “households with single moms are more likely to breed poverty”
let’s be real.

Imagine that you are a person directing TV shows and monitoring them. Do you have the responsibility to be more diverse than earlier? Should you include people of different ages, races, and gender in your TV shows to ensure diversity awareness in the viewers?

I am going to let statistics answer this one for me. If you compare movies/series made now with more diverse roles you will find that the ratings have dropped a lot.
They have been noticing that people are going back to rewatching older shows just because those shows aren’t playing identity politics.
HBO for example you will see that they aren’t focused on anything other than good content no matter what.

Have you ever kneeled during the national anthem

No. I rarely agree with the government and I question many of the policies, but I respect the flag and those who gave their lives for it - so a bunch of spoiled multi-millionaires can b!tch and complain about how "difficult" their lives are. If they gave a damn about those who are genuinely suffering, they would examine the crime statistics and the inconvenient truths which are buried therein. Better yet, they would get up off the f*cking knees and visit some of those areas which could use their assistance and mentoring. Hypocritical virtue signalling pr!cks.

Lol you keep talking about "higher level statistics class" while clearly having no idea how statistics work (or are collected). Let me school you for a bit. No one can count every single person in the USA, but statistics say the population is a greater % white than black. Do you think that's a lie?

Give me where you’re getting your information or i’m not continuing in my debate with you. Im not saying you can’t say count everyone in the population, statistically theres more white people in the US, then hispanic, then black, then asian, then the rest. i’m saying you can’t judge intelligence or other things until you know all the other factors, and most statistics pages don’t take everything into consideration.

"the percentage of asian girls performing better is going to be higher when theres less to compare." Hahaha no, that's not how percentages work. The whole point of percentages is to compare situations, like this, when the numbers are different. I mean I thought everyone knew this, how can you not??

A higher level statistics class will tell you what i explained thats how i know you haven’t taken one. I’m not going back and forth trying to tell you how percentages work when I already know. Statistics are uncertain, There’s no real way to calculate percentages of a population without testing every single person in the population and thats not realistic so the only thing you can get are estimates of a population, and most of those estimates have things that affect them which is why you can never get a real answer. Which website did you get your percentages of them performing better so I can analyze it and see if it’s true, I can’t find any

So you actually don't know how percentages work. Do you know what a percentage is?

the percentage of asian girls performing better is going to be higher when theres less to compare. Taking 4 white students and 4 asian students isnt going to give you accurate results when theres 12 million white students and only 1 million asian students. i know how percentages work, like i said you obviously haven’t taken a high level statistics class.

Do you think that more tv shows and movies need to be made that bring attention to domestic abuse against men by their wives or girlfriends? Do you know any guys that have been a victim of DV? Did you help or did you not get involved?

I both am and know survivors of domestic violence, it's horrific, you can't fathom how someone who says that they love you can also beat you black and blue moments later. I definitely feel that more awareness needs to be raised for DV against men, regardless of the gender of their partner because it happens, domestic abuse isn't always violent either. I also wish to stop the use of the word 'victim', it tends not to help someone deal with their trauma; we need to start normalising the word 'survivor' in it's place to give us/everyone who goes through it the strength to come through the other side of it. There also needs to be more awareness of the statistics of those who don't survive and more leniency towards those who defend themselves from it, there is a lot of people given harsh sentences for doing what they felt they had to to make their abuse stop, strength doesn't always come from escaping it alone.

You're saying it's false based on you compared to asian girls in your class. That's hardly "in general". If you want "in general" look up asian girls class performance on average across the USA. If you can't find that look up how many of them get advanced college degrees compared to others

ive been to 15 different public schools across 3 different states & a college, each place i went to same thing applied it didnt matter about what you looked like what mattered was how much work you put into your grades. those statistics your talking about aren’t really true; theres so many factors that make those statistics unrealistic; for example the amount of asian girls in the US is wayyy lower than the amount of white girls so obviously the percentage of them performing better is going to be higher

i think men r dumb because they use(waste) their memory to store entire statistics of football games and their commentaries verbatim. having said that ,i have a whole notebook dedicated to herbal tea and know an unnecessary amount of herbal tea facts like how menthol present naturally in peppermint (tea) is also synthetically produced to be used in prickly heat powder because menthol is *literally* cool. it tricks ur brain into feel cold. how cool is that maybe its not but next time u r boiling in sun just take a peppermint tea shower

you’re right its like when people say women should just leave their violent partner when they are most likely to be in danger if/when they do. the horrifying stats re violence against women are just accepted as “life”. it really sickens and scares me

exactly — there are so many factors and complexities involved in being in an ab*sive relationship, and the risk of getting hurt or k*lled is increased exponentially if that person tries to leave, especially if it’s a woman in an ab*sive relationship with a man. there are so many statistics regarding this, like you said, and when people have the nerve to say, “oh, just leave!” then they’re really displaying their ignorance on the problem.
