Hi can I ask for some advice? I'm autistic and I'm thinking of learning to swim, I've got armbands and a ring I could use but I feel embarrassed, do I really need to learn how to swim? can't afford other aids or lessons and I'm scared of the water plus can't float and nearly experienced drowning:/

Hi. My answer will be roughly the same as it was for the last couple of times you’ve asked this.
If the suggestions people on here (including me) haven’t worked for you, then organising some therapy to help you work through this issue is probably the best option.
(Alternatively you could just avoid bodies of water altogether and not ever need to swim, though I guess you never know when you might suddenly have to. )

Rachel, is it true that if u jump on one end of an island, u could tip it over? If I owned Australia, I would put a giant motor on it. That would be like a monster yacht. Boats or relationship? What do u like about sailing? Call me if u wanna go scuba diving. In jeans and red swim fins. -Sage

Yeah Sage, it’s true. The earth is flat too. If you jump too hard then you flip the whole world over. 😱

all i want is softness in this era

Life cannot exist without contrast. Bland, predictable, hollow, with no ability to imagine a new perspective will destroy your ability to survive the storm. But even water looks soft, when it can be both sanctuary and cause your demise. I guess the choice is always uniquely our own to sink or swim.

What is the most useless university degree?

A professor and a sailor were on a boat in the middle of the Nile. The professor filled with bravado acquired from having completed numerous degrees asked the sailor if he was familiar with Math. The sailor said "no." "How about Biology." Sailor said "no." He asked the same of Theoretical Physics, Chemistry and Geography. To which the sailor replied with a NO. The professor, clearly indignant replied "what then do you know? You’ll eventually die of this illiteracy."
A few moments later the boat hit some turbulence and they started sinking. The sailor then asked the Professor if he could swim. The professor said "no." To which the sailor quipped "you’ll most certainly be eaten by these crocodiles."
All degrees are useless except the one that prevents crocodiles from eating you !!
It's a life degree ..

What makes you feel calm/at peace with oneself? 🧘‍♂️🌿🧘‍♀️#Namaste🙏😛

Nothing helps to clear my mind better than being in water. To let myself lower my heartrate before I go for a dive, so I can be down there for longer. Then when I swim, the sound and feel of water rushing past me is very therapeutic 😌🏊

Hey:) I hope you got a good start into the new year, how are you?

Hey! I'm doing good! Been having a chill start of the new semester this week! Have only had two introduction lectures and not much else! The week before though was very intense however, two group assignments due and two seminars! But I've had some rest and am getting into the groove of things again. Went for the first time to a gym much closer to where I now live and first swim practice for the semester will be on Monday. Am also happy about my D&D playing together more often! Hope you're doing well! 😊

What are some unspoken swimming rules/lane etiquette that you feel more people should be aware of? 🏊

anonamouse89887’s Profile Photoanonamouse
Here are a few things people do in pools that REALLY grinds my gears 😤😂
💧Leaning onto the lane dividers, especially in such a way so legs, arms etc. are in the way of the ones swimming in the lane next to them.
💧 Not letting faster people pass, or just not have any awareness of the people around them.
💧They do not keep to the right of the lane. So it's impossible to pass or even share the lane with them.
💧Not keeping in mind that fast lane = FAST lane. It's not the place to swim "swan kicks" as we call them. (Breastroke where you keep your head above the water at all times)
💧Not swimming with people who swim at the same pace as you. It's much more efficient and pleasant to be five slow people sharing a lane than one fast and one slow.
💧Swimming between lanes without checking to see if they'll be in the way of someone.
💧If the lane states that you swim straight and back and not in "a circle", follow said rules. Almost turned into someone HARD since they swam right in front of me as I was doing a flip.
💧Complaining about splashing, you're in water goddamnit. If you can't take it, don't be near the fast lane.

When it comes to swimming, what are some of your stand out moments/achievements? Ones that you look back on and go “wow, I did that!” 😌🥹

I wasn't super competitive back in the day, so I didn't really get into the big leauges per say. I did manage to swim 100 m Freestyle in under a minute and 1500 meters at 18 minutes, 17 seconds! I'm pretty proud of that! Also it was nice to go to training camps in Spain and Hungary 😊

In your opinion, how to overcome a fear?

Talk about it; maybe with a specialist depending on the fear and how worse it is. I think the best thing is to face your fear so you can prove yourself that is not actually that bad. Like I was always scared to swim because no one teached me as a child, but now I don't think it's that bad and I'm trying to learn how to swim.

When you swim, what kind of stroke do you most often use? Do you feel comfortable being in water? 🏊

I don’t swim laps, but I took swim lessons from a young age so I’m good at staying afloat, diving, snorkeling, bobbing around, etc. I wouldn’t drown :)

I really don’t “swim.” I can do the front crawl as an emergency escape, but that is energy is intense. My preferred water activity is to just float around in a pool or sit in a hot tub.
Oddly, it wasn’t until the “internet era” that I realized a significant portion of the US population did not have swim lessons. I took them as a kid and thought all kids did as well.
Treading water is the most basic survival technique. I can’t imagine the terror of someone who can’t that might fall off a boat. If I could not swim to some minimal ability, I’d never go on any boat/ship.

I always swim with a simple breaststroke, my hypermobility causes me to not perform the other ones well. I mean I once were able to do them all, because otherwise I didn’t get my swimmers diploma, but some of them easily dislocate my shoulders lol. 😂😅
I feel comfortable being in water! But I cannot swim for long, again due to my hypermobility I tend to get tired faster. I’m scared that after a while I will get too tired. I prefer going on slides, I’m not the type of person that just swims to swim. I either do tricks, swim to a certain spot or go on slides 😂

breaststroke is the only one that i can do, as well as the doggy paddle.
i feel okay in the water, i guess. i have anxiety in deep water due a near-drowning incident when i was 3, and i've never been a strong swimmer. my anxiety has lessened since i taught myself to swim in a way that works best for me, though.

are you disgusted by anything second hand (i.e. clothes, furniture, kitchenware, etc) or do you love a good steal even if it's free?

lagniappekayy’s Profile Photo.morgann.
I don't mind second hand at all & when I say I'm amazing at thrifting I'm not exaggerating lol. 99% of my kids name brand clothes are secondhand / thrifted. The only things I wouldn't want second hand are mattresses, underwear, swimwear but mainly swim bottoms & socks.

What is the most breathtaking view you’ve personally seen/captured in nature? Where were you? What was that experience like? If you have a picture of it, feel free to share! (Inspired by my recent trip to Niagara Falls) 🤩📸

I was in absolute awe when I went diving in the Great barrier reef in Australia! I had always dreamt of being able to dive by a coral reef and swim with sea turtles so when I finally got to do that I honestly didn't want to leave. It was so great and I was constantly buzzing about what I'd get to see next 🤿🦈🐢

I think its about time I asked YOU a question! So, have you ever been to the UK? If so, what did you think of it? Be honest, I can take it! I myself have been to Stockholm, but I was only there for an hour! We stopped off on the way from Finland to Denmark.

AnitaakaMabel’s Profile PhotoMabel Bloggs
I've been to London a few times, yeah! But not really anywhere else in the UK, which I hope to remedy sometime! First time I was there we even saw the queen! When we were gonna cross the street near Big Ben we got stopped by a few armed guards. Then a whole convoy of cars drove past, with the queen and prince Philip in a car somewhere in the middle. My dad even managed to snap a good picture of the both them! I also remember swimming at the aquatics centre, probably the most epic place I've gone for a swim 🇬🇧

Do you have any stories of when you got sunburned? If not, when was the last time it happened? ☀️🔥

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Geez, I’ve been burnt like a crisp, it wasn’t an obviously sunny burnt looking day and I was out in the boat. After a swim I didn’t put my top back on and the reflection off the water cooked me!! I don’t blister or peel but go sooooo red and it’s soooo hot I could hardly move for two day!!

How would you describe your ideal place to go for a swim? 🏊💦

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
I can't swim, unfortunately! I'd love to learn one day, as it's great exercise that uses your whole body. We had swimming lessons in school, but I was mostly busy looking after a friend who was scared of water. Even so, I didn't pick it up quickly at all. I think I was the only one left in the smaller pool with armbands on. 🏊🏻‍♀️

Do you exercise? What's your favourite exercise? Do you own any gym equipment? 😁

M1ssSemy’s Profile PhotoStar. i
I do exercise! I either go swimming, both with a swim team and alone or I head to the gym! When I swim I like to put on paddles and a snorkle and just swim laps upon laps, I find it very relaxing! Not in that it doesn't tire me but it's a good way for me to clear my head 🏊‍♂️
I own some resistance bands, jump ropes and a "multi trainer band" but I very rarely use those at home to be honest with you 😅

I swim in the open ocean, at night in cold water, in places where there are hundreds of yards of depth below me. don't think you can scare me with that.😹

I swim on the website . . . . free as a bird . . . . or a trout
But I do agree, the website has gone down the drain, but the app is so limiting , it is worthless to me

Good question Juliy, I don’t really know tbh. Our water is around 55F down here and I can spend hours in it but I’ve never tried timing swims in water down to 41F 🤷🏻‍♂️ 💋

For me, the most comfortable water temperature is no more than 35 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, I can swim a few miles.
But I had the experience of swimming and at a temperature of 30 degrees Fahrenheit, I did not feel the difference.
