Desire to win in the big game of life. But, what does it mean to "win?" More toys? More money? Prettier wife? Better education? I dont know, but I sure feel good when I orgasm or when I receive a big check.
Waking up after a good night's sleep with solid morningwood and needing to decide if you should rub one out, or save the load for your wife when you're both going back to bed.
Well for me it having a family. I don't have one yet, but that's my end goal. I didn't get on well with my dad, and I don't want that to happen again. So everything I do is for those kids I don't have yet, so they can look up to me, and be given every advantage. So I'm just working hard now for them.
I live for the people who would miss me if I left. I hate life, but it would be selfish to abandon those who could be hurt by my death.
The possibility of life extending technologies. I don't think life is inherently valuable, which is why it is so important to mold reality into something worthwhile. If I have faith in anything it is humanity's capacity for creative solutions.
With this existence comes the issues of life (bitterness, resentment, spite). One doesn't necessarily like it, but it produces a want for something better (beyond mundane) because we realize how complex /precious life is. Thus, it is bittersweet; a double edged sword. I was more or less agreeing with you.
See, I'm not sure that is such a valid assumption to make. We are already heading into a time of extreme job scarcity, with apparently no intention to change society to adapt for massive unemployment. Increasing life expectancy would simply exacerbate that issue, causing even more hardship.
It would be great if humanity could get it's shit together and distribute wealth in a way that ensures everyone has a comfortable life even if they aren't "working" in the traditional sense. At this point though? I don't see it happening without a major societal breakdown which would result in a substantial population decrease anyway.
Lots and lots of ticks. Crawling everywhere and latching on all over your body. I can feel them crawling right before they bite.
I was thinking, they want to know what motivates me. Then you ask for what makes me scared. They you say you need inspiration for the antagonist, which might indicate you want to know what pisses me off. Confuddled questions like this tick me off, ticks on my dog tick me off, and what scares me the most are the number of mentally unstable people who are truly dangerous that are not being monitored.

The weather / climate changes. Constantly. It has been doing so for millions of years before man walked the earth and it will continue long after humanity's extinction. It is a monumentally arrogant / ignorant position to assume that we have the power to make any drastic changes within the short period of time that we will inhabit this planet. One day, the sun will explode and everything in our solar system will turn to dust. This debate has practically nothing to do with the "environment." In fact, it concerns carbon taxes, transfer of wealth, limitations on productivity, confiscation of private property and plenty of junk "science" which is disputed by numerous experts in the field. I proudly support / encourage conservation efforts, clean / sustainable sources of energy and new emerging technologies which may benefit us, but "environmentalism" is an utter fraud and it must be opposed at all levels. We could be good stewards *without* going to irrational extremes...

Maybe we compare it to locust mentality. Where a seemingly harmless group of grasshoppers or crickets become extremely hostile in large groups. In some apes like monkeys their exist wars between tribal families that can last for years and it's some of the most brutal fighting you ever seen. The Geneva convention would have a heart attack with if it was ever needed to be addressed. When rationality goes out the window some of the most underhanded and brutal actions can be performed by anyone it doesn't even need any real logic just some sort of vague sense of validity to justify your own actions. It's why seemingly normal decent people can just snap one day.
It's an unfortunate component of the human condition. It will always exist, as conflict will always exist. War has been there since the beginning, and it will continue on until the end. We are hard wired to fight each other, just as we are hard wired to hunt and gather.
People die, children are separated from their parents, and the land is devastated from the bombardment of bullet shells and fire. Millions of people lose their lives, and the history of the Earth never really is the same. And through all of this, sometimes, it is a truly necessary evil, because not everything can be solved by peaceful means. It is the epitome of chaos and order.
Early in the 20th century, there was a feeling that our population (especially the men) were growing soft because it had been two generations since the last war. This is part of why sports like football became so popular, because they were seen as an alternative way to strengthen our population physically and mentally. Its curious that at the time, in a way it was seen as a bad thing that there had been a small gap between wars. Although once WWI happened, I dont think anyone doubted that war was indeed something we didnt want. But at the same time, before sports and movies were popular, the main "heroes" that existed were mostly military men and politicians. Its interesting how things have changed.
Now we glorify athletes, musicians, and celebrities in general. War is looked down upon, but still happening on a regular basis. The amount of money spent on military in this country is absurd. We have troops stationed all over the globe. War is terrible, Id hate to actually be part of one. Its horrifying. But its interesting to look at it from a historical perspective on many different ways. The technologies that developed due to war are innumerable. Nothing positive. I think war is a disgusting use of our time on this planet. I feel that the people who provoke war are disgusting people, and that the means by which they go about achieving their goals are even more disgusting. I also detest the argument, "War is good for the economy." I often wonder how many of the people who say that would go to war, knowing that they're only there to potentially increase monetary worth of their genocidal leaders.

It's a masterpiece of intellectuality, and utterly unparalleled in providing a mind-warping trip into extreme psychological and philosophical themes whose impact lingers and haunts like nothing I've ever experienced.

This is going without saying that Serial Experiments Lain is one of the most inaccessible creations of art to grace the medium of Animation, and it is difficult to even describe its complexity. There is a broad range of ideas, all of which have massive depth in their facets, which could all be focused on as a main point. Generally, these themes involve technologies impact on society, thorough deconstruction of the internet, the psychology of an impersonal god, Etcetera. In addition, the massive breadth of theoretical possibilities to many of the open-ended points in Serial Experiments Lain's plot and themes is without limit.

Concerning the plot of the first half of the show, the delivery is extremely cryptic and mysterious. There is little aspects of the plot structure in which one definitive point is summed up, rather it's ever-evolving, chapter-less, and amorphous. Points are conveyed not through clear, upfront events, but through innumerable small details continuously revealed throughout the course of each episode. Everything is a puzzle made up of tiny little fragments of information, the bonding of each piece comprising of the viewer's continuous contemplation and theorization of what is going on, and what is next. Eventually, through no clear, definitive point, but over a general expanse of time, the big picture clicks into place.

The latter half of the show, starting somewhere in the 6th episode or so, is an even higher dimension of intellectual exposition. In the first half, the themes involved with each small detail conveyed would be mentioned some way or another. The philosophical notions and ideas, as well as most of the psychological aspects, are found entirely through the viewer's own questioning. This side of the plot, which holds some of most powerful ideas and content of its genre that I've ever witnessed, are never expressed in any moment through the face-value of events that occur, but entirely through the varying levels of connotations. There are no narratives, clear explanations, or dialogue, only the viewer's ability to string together the numerous implications of events into powerful, complex systems of ideas.

Ajax isn't a technology invented by someone. It is invented inside Microsoft and became popular after Google used it in the earlier versions of Google Maps. Similar to Ajax; web technologies *cannot* be invented by individuals. It needs to be shipped in a browser which is something individuals don't do.

A LOT of successful software engineers who started their careers through opensource projects made it to big companies. The example that comes to my mind now is Dan Abramov who started working at Facebook after creating Redux. Facebook hired him and made him in charge shortly after.

Now, why doesn't everyone with a successful opensource project apply to work at Google and similar companies ... Why should they? If they're happy where they are and having a balance of working on something they have passion about ... then why bother?

[Virgile] est largement le plus porté sur la technologie de tout mon cheptel.
