Been to a ballet or live theater? If so, did the story line bring tears to your eyes?

Luv_freckles’s Profile PhotoM____Adam
I've never been to ballet but I have been to the theatre a few times. I was a drama student in school, part of our last exam was on inspector calls so we went to see that. It was pretty good, I enjoyed it despite having already read the script and analysing it sixteen times 😅 I know my aunt took me to see a different performance when I was a kid but I have no memory of what it was

Do you like Panic At The Disco? Personally haven’t heard anything from them in the past decade but they hold a very special place in my corason🌈 I was their biggest fan as a child and teen. Still listening to their old songs every then and now and they touch my emotional cord.

I do!! Like with you, I haven’t listened to them in a very long time, but Vices & Virtues was my favourite album ever when it released! Ready To Go is probably my favourite music video too, it inspired me a lot in terms of wanting to pursue theatre design (at the time) :)
I’m going to have to listen to them later! Which songs of theirs do you particularly like? ✨

When was the last time you went to the movie theater and what did you see?🙂

Shannon678900’s Profile PhotoShannon678900
We don't have "movie theaters" in the UK
And 'theater' is the american misspelling of 'theatre' - a place where live performances are performed .
Last time in a cinema must have been 16+ years ago, and featured the thing below . . . .

My son loves theatre performances and he regularly "forces" me to visit them with him 😅 - so I told him OK, but I want to see comedies only 😁.... Last one was in beginning of this March 👉 written by French Georges Feyedeau: Un fil a la patte (Slovaks called this play 'So she stuck to me') 😂👍

I have only been to A Midsummer Night's Dream outside in the park Botanical Gardens in Sydney to watch the play and it was amazing ! Every scene was in a different location throughout the gardens at night time .
I have also seen Green Day’s American Idiot musical at the Sydney Opera House , which was also amazing ! I would love to see The Phantom Of The Opera , playing outside in Sydney at the moment !
As far as movie musicals on screen I love Sweeney Todd and Rocky Horror Show .

Yes, I like theater and I don't mind musicals. Favorites... not really. I like classic ballet shows like swan lake or don Quijote, in my opinion, original jesus crist superstar is overrated, but i love its metal version. Once I watched a gorgeous performance on Turgenev's "Fathers and sons", and it was exactly how I imagined this book. Usually, the original productions come to me the most, because in adaptations I know the original source and I always want to stage the play a little differently, you know)

I have nothing against musicals or theatre but I'm currently not, like, actively invested in either of those things. I did see a performance of Tanz der Vampire live once and it was amazing, and I enjoyed the few times I went to the theatre, so maybe that's something I should get into (again) at some point, haha.

I do like musicals, though I haven't actually gone to the theatre to see many of them! I would like to, but it isn't something I can afford to do on a regular basis. I listen to a lot of soundtracks though! And I watch a lot of movie musicals.
Rocky Horror is my favourite. I also like Heathers The Musical, and I was really into Hamilton for a while too, but I don't enjoy it as much now as I used to.

Musicals no but theater yes. I've been a few times as field trips when I was in high school, it was actually really fun to watch. I think the favorite that i've seen in person would be Romeo & Juliet. I think I was like a sophomore or junior

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Yes, I like musicals. I've been to three this year - Back to the Future, Only Fools And Horses, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cinderella. I like straight plays too, but other than seeing a friend's amateur performance last September I don't think I've seen one for a few years. I'm hoping to go to Shakespeare's Globe to see a performance later this year when the weather's better (it's outdoors).

I do like a lot of 90's movies, like Pulp fiction and The Matrix! 🎬
But none will be as meaningful to me as Jurassic Park. It's the first 90's movie that comes to my mind. I even had a completely Jurassic Park themed room as a kid and I own an original theatre poster from when it first aired 🦖

If you asked me 10 years ago, I would tell that I miss going to the theatre. But from time my son become adult (18) and as he is very interested in theatre, he started to arrange our common visits of theatre and during last 10 years we were there regularly every month, so this my need is fully satisfied already 😁. Next performance we will attend on 10th of March 👇 (The Merry Wives of Windsor) 🤩

How odd is that , when you realize you are just a puppet and your surroundings are theatre people in it watching you as audience. Clapping on each of your dialogue/Act . Disrespecting you on wrong doings. Sometimes it will appear as a Big hit and a poor flop. Evrythin that matters is jst a gud scrpt

So what if the script is tragic? Read till the last chapter, one page is enough to turn the tables, keep reading. The writer might change the ending jus' for you.

What was the first movie you remember seeing in theaters?

You must be new to England .
English is correct there
'theater' is spelled 'theatre' ; you don't watch movies there, theatre is for plays and other live performances .
Cinema , is where you watch movies . If you are so inclined .

how has your january been so far? 🌷

nurbzee’s Profile Photonurulhuda
Like most Januarys, I'm feeling like I'm stuck indoors a bit because of the cold grey weather, but I have managed two trips into London to go to the theatre (to the musicals Back the the Future and Only Fools and Horses) and to do a few tourist things such as Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace, the Sky Garden, the London Mithraeum (Roman temple), Leadenhall Market etc, all of which I've never been to before.

What is your definition of a beautiful mistake? Have you ever encountered such an experience!

AisyahIsHere2’s Profile PhotoAisyahpotated
I remember we had this musical play and it was supposed to be a very dramatic scene because the protagonist's baby died but my classmate who's acting then, held the baby upside down; everyone in the theatre laughed out loud and we just couldn't take him seriously no matter how heartfelt his singing and acting was. That scene exempted us from taking the final exam.😂
For me, beautiful mistake is like this. Even after planning, practicing and trying your best, there will be sudden turn of events that you haven't anticipated that eventually makes everything better.

What was the most challenging part of studying a degree in Fine Art?

Oo, good question!
For me, because I didn’t have a Fine Art background (my BA and Foundation were Theatre Design based), it was really difficult at first wrapping my head around how much freedom I had, and not having to work to a detailed brief. Sure, I still had creativity there and in some ways, that helped propel me to naturally go outside the box, but with Fine Art, I could choose whatever I wanted to do! In theory that sounds great, but it was overwhelming at first! I eventually got around that by essentially setting my own brief and creating a narrative to explore.
The real kicker, and I’m not sure if you had this when you studied too/your current studies, is that art school doesn’t really prepare you for the business side of the career.
For example, how to do your taxes as an artist/self employed creative, how to claim for this or what not to do, how to approach galleries, how to price your art (this was a major issue), how to negotiate with clients or potential buyers, what is a residency, how to submit a proposal to a gallery, etc. I could go on!!
All of this I’ve researched outside of uni, but it would have been really helpful to have had at least one afternoon spent on campus to be given at least a heads up on it! I think this is an art school thing in general, unfortunately.
Those aspects were the most challenging things. That and finding my voice as an artist, and learning what contextual art is and how to portray that - my tutors didn’t really explain it to me till near the end of the degree, as they assumed everyone knew it as my peers had art backgrounds/were abstract or conceptual artists, so they didn’t need to know. As my art is quite realistic (or in the sense that, it’s definitely not abstract aha), I have to be super clear with what I’m trying to portray and basically spell it out through the painting, more so than other types of art. Who knew! I honestly didn’t, as my earlier artworks were too symbolic in meaning.
It’s why I need to revisit a lot of my paintings I did over those years to create a series out of all of them, to tie in the collective story 😅
(I’ve probably written too much, I’m sorry!! 😆) ✨
