Talk us through your daily life challenges and how you tackle them

I've struggled with depression so much over the last 6 months to the point that I struggle showering at least every other day. I've been going 2-3 wks w/out showering. How do I overcome this? 40/F, medicated for ADHD & depression, tried med changes, state insurance doesn't offer quality therapy.

I can relate to this because at one point, I didn’t shower for prolonged periods of time due to being depressed and being on the wrong antidepressants. Zoloft didn’t work for me and I took a whole year off from college due to not trusting myself enough to be responsible if I did continue to go to college. A few years ago, I went back to using prozac again which had its side effects at first but it helped like before. I think that sometimes (if medications don’t seem to work) you have to remind yourself that you deserve to live a good life and the first step is taking care of yourself. I think that you should still try therapy but the reason I’m not trying it right now is because I’ve been getting therapy for at least 5 years and I did click with my first therapist but didn’t with the rest of them. Having a great support system and being on the right medication(s) will be a motivating factor for you in my opinion.

Have you ever been to therapy before? How was your experience?

Yes. I went once or twice when I was in elementary school because the teachers at the school that I went to told my parents how quiet I was and I didn’t really have friends so they were worried. When I went to see the therapist, she was surprised because I wasn’t quiet around her and wondered if they sent the right kid lol. In middle school, I saw one regularly due to dealing with OCD and being depressed and I really liked talking to my therapist until I started high school. In high school, I didn’t open up as much to my therapist anymore or listen to what she would tell me to do and she felt like she couldn’t help me anymore so I was referred to see a social worker instead. The problem was, I didn’t want to see anyone at the time and didn’t feel as comfortable talking to the social worker so not long after, I stopped seeing her too. A few years later, I moved to another place in the same state (where I currently live now) and saw a therapist who specialized in OCD but I didn’t really click with her sadly. I stopped seeing her after she asked me if our sessions were helping me and I told her that they were but they weren’t helping “enough.” I currently am not seeing anyone but I agreed with my last therapist when she said that it’s best to take a break from our sessions and see someone else for my social anxiety (which I also deal with).

The mr knows it all with they come up to me when need any sugestions.. specificaly falsafa or islamic jurisprudence... And books and spiritual expects of any thing .... When they are confused... They can take me any where at 3 am or 5 am for nashta or any thing... Once they took me striaght to hunza and skardu via naran kaghan from office k sadar sy shoping krny jana hai....i m the comedian when in group of friendz and therapist in 1 to 1 meetings....i m who never minds any kind of joke and come back with the greater one and i m the who is there to took all the ilzam when any of then fighting with the other

I was always one to keep to myself and people at my high school always misunderstood me because of that. I didn’t have any friends freshman year of high school and only made a few friends towards the end of high school. I wouldn’t respond back to those who were mean to me and was dealing with social anxiety so sitting in class felt brutal. I would get a lot of detention slips due to coming to school late all the time and at one point, I didn’t want to go to school anymore as a result of having detention every so often. My parents told the school about it and got a signature from my therapist at the time so they no longer gave me detention slips after that. I didn’t like sitting in the cafeteria because I didn’t have anyone to talk to and eventually, I decided to sit in the library during lunchtime. During sophomore year, I was hanging out in the counselors office quite frequently because I didn’t want to sit in class and that was my escape. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do that the year after and I tried to focus on my classes for once and did well academically the last two years of high school.

All pain is temporary. In the end, relief will arrive. Can't spell life without lie and we all know what the f stands for. Lack of financial issues could introduce a wealth of complications which are perfectly okay with one's therapist, attorney or broker. Please, tell me where it hurts and I will provide the remedy. Why after I went thru a traumatic event I’ve closed myself off? I hate it, but my nerves just be everywhere when I’m around people

Your body is reacting normally, give yourself grace. Trauma is an extremely hard thing to work through at times, your body knows when to protect itself. People also react differently to it whether it be a flight, fight, or freeze response. There is no time limit to processing it either.
Do you have anybody you could talk to? Preferably a therapist (I mean no offense by this, I go to therapy myself🥰), maybe a friend you trust to no end? A family member?
I would also recommend starting off really slow and easing into social life again, if possible. Maybe if you have a pet you could take them for a walk in a less common park (state rec passes give you free entry too!) Even if you don't have any interactions with anyone being in the world again, observing small joys and grounding yourself can really help.
Another one of my favorite things is called 5-sense grounding. There's no particular order or right way to do it but I usually like to think of (you can even say them if hearing it is better!)
"5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste." It may seem silly at first, as a lot of coping skills quite frankly do but it really does help!
I also LOVE tangible and visual things. If you're interested I can explain how to make glitter jars! They're really effective for reducing anxiety and panic attacks😊
Last, if you don't have someone you want to talk to you can always journal. I hate writing unless if I have to so I typically like to journal in my phone and archive it after so it's not visible from my regular notes section.
If you made it this far, I appreciate you and the mass amount of info I dumped on you, lol. I deal with a lot of mental stuff (BPD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD) and I've also been to my fair share of inpatient/outpatient programs so I know a bit😉😊

In college when I took psychology, it made me want to be a therapist. Doing it. In recent years, I wanted to do s*x therapist.. people get more s*x therapy with me it seems.

How to control your feelings and emotions? Do you think there is a way to suppress them? Is it safe to suppress?

Suppression only leads to an inner toxic build-up of these emotions, and they come out in uglier and worst forms than they initially were contained in.
It's always better to find an outlet, although I'd suggest against finding a human outlet in this case, except for your therapist - for it might lead to unwanted attachments, thereby planting seeds for yet another round of repression in its wake.

How do you get over someone that you truly Love with all your heart but you don't want to let them go because they mean the world to you and you hope they love you but they are in a bind

Getting over someone you truly love can be a challenging and painful process. It's important to give yourself time and space to grieve and process the end of the relationship. Instead of trying to completely let go of the person and the memories, try to find healthy ways to cope with the emotional pain and focus on self-care. Spend time with friends and family, engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment, and consider seeking support from a therapist or counselor to help you work through your feelings. Remember that healing takes time, but it is possible to move forward and find happiness again.

Is it inappropriate to hug your therapist if it's your last session?

It kind of depends on what type of therapist and what kind of therapy relationship you had.
I’m a speech language pathologist/therapist and my clients are children for example. I always let children decide what they want. If they want a hug, that’s totally fine with me.

how did you know it was time to stop going to therapy?

My therapist actually asked if I thought I was ready to stop & use all the advice on my own & if I needed help again I could just call him. Haven’t needed to call him since. He does check in once a year just to make sure everything is all good! 😊

Having mental health problems are normal. What kinda problems are you facing? Problems could be even negative thoughts or more than this.

It's actually not normal to have mental health problems. It's no joke. We take it so lightly. Always consult a therapist or psychiatrist for it.
Depression, anxiety, Stress that leads you to a major sensory problem and can lead you to so many hardships.
SO NO! MENTAL HEATH PROBLEMS ARE NOT NORMAL.

I didn’t years ago, but then I went to therapy (had the best therapist) and he taught how important it is to be vulnerable and honest with not only myself but with others about how I feel.
It kinda ended up that I am WAY TOO blunt these days though and it turns people off but I have learned that if you can’t handle honesty - I can’t be around you lol

Therapist - I might get triggered with what they are telling me. Been through the same thing or something similar. Understand what they would feel
