What lipstick color is the least slutty, but still alluring?
I ride a harley and wear army boots. I can't tell you the last time I used lipstick, so I have no idea. Also, slut shaming is gross.
Howdy ho there neighborino! I am part of a FB group that has seen the PJIs efforts, and is pissed off by them. We were wondering, since you have the inside track, if there are any official, semi-official, or at least family endorsed FB groups for support of Jane?
Some of the town kids created a group, but I've not publicised it because the last thing these kids need is to deal with hordes of cruel adults who want to talk about the various ways trans kids should be killed, have their rights taken away and/or how they're perverts. If you'd like to send a supportive comment to Jane, you can do so here:http://www.transadvocate.com/pji-supporters-under-police-surveillance-for-bullying.htm
What specific issues do you see in providing housing and aide for LGBTQIA youth?
Adequate funding. The second is legal mechanisms in place so that kids under 18 can stay in a shelter without parental consent.
Can I ask you a favor? Would you please remind me to keep a barf bin handy when reading TERF 'articles'? After reading a repost of Burchill's 'transsexuals should cut it out' rant, I'm having to replace my trash can. :[
Ha! I recommend sticky notes!
Just listened to your PJI interview. Sounds like whoever you were speaking with was selected because they are a professional 'avoider'. Out of all the questions, I only heard three or four answers. :\Thanks for not letting them off the hook.
Certain TERF leader: 'The school district wouldn't just talk to the Transadvocate!' *rolls eyes* Wasn't a large part of the issue the fact that legitimate news sources were spreading these lies WITHOUT REACHING OUT TO FACT CHECK? Seewww... Kinda negates the accusation there, TERF princess...
Ha! That's too funny!
I'm MtF trans* but do not "present" as F. No makeup, queer haircut, andro clothes. I go by gender neutral initials. I'm v. experienced in my field, but since being trans*, my job interviews won't go past 1st interviews. I'm afraid I'm "too much" and employers don't know which pronouns to use...help?
You're experiencing the same issues that many atypical gender presenting people face. When we do not meet gendered expectations, we pay an immediate social price. Should it be that way? Of course not. Should it be changed? Of course... And progress is being made. We now have Title VII protections and a week doesn't pass without more trans protections expanding in both the public and private arena. Even so, the trans community continues to face one of the highest rates of unemployment. First, find out if your state allows single consent recording. If so, this means that you can secretly record conversations without notifying anyone. This is helpful when you encounter discrimination. Recording audio encounters will provide you with the evidence you need should you encounter overt discrimination. Also, attitude helps a lot. If you can facilitate a casual no-big-deal encounter, you'll find that many fears are put to rest. I know a number of professionals who are open and matter of fact about their gender presentations. There's no easy answer and every situation is going to be different. For me, (since it's legal here in Texas) I would secretly record all interviews. I would do my best to manage my own discomfort and do my best to make my gender stuff a non-issue. In an interview, my job is to inform the prospective employer how I might help solve a problem they're having. Being affable, smiling, being relaxed and focusing on my past successes helps set a positive tone in interviews. After the interview, I would listen to the recording and try to objectively identify areas where I could improve my interview technique. If you record an prospective employer making inappropriate remarks, take it to your local EEOC.
Don't trans people who are out, add a layer of "otherness" to their relationships with cis people?
I'm not sure what you mean. Some cis folk who've not dealt with the biases a transphobic culture teaches all of us has a steep learning curve, but outside of that, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "otherness."
Does national coming out day mean anything to the trans folks?
Of course. On a historical note, 10/11 coincides with an anniversary on a LGBT March on Washington. The 1st March on Washington was held in 1979 and was organized. The lead organizer (Ray Hill) was a strong trans ally and trans people like Phyllis Frye were part of why the MOW happened. In fact, on our twitter account you can see Phyllis leading a march contingent. http://www.cristanwilliams.com/b/2012/12/18/look-back-at-the-t-in-the-1979-gay-march-on-washington/Anyway, coming out as trans is a big deal and I love that we have a day set aside for that right of passage - to remember, honor and support that noble act of truth telling.
How do I expose a Thai doctor who is injecting patients with tissue preservative, possibly formaldehyde? Assume I'm the victim and the evidence is between my legs.
You would need evidence. Once you have evidence, then email The Medical Council of Thailand at edu@tmc.or.th or asean-tmc@tmc.or.th. Alternatively, you can call them at (0)2590-1880-1, (0)2590-1884, (0)2590-1886-7 or (0)2590-1888-9.
How can a trans ally be the best they can be in terms of speaking out for the trans community, especially in straight cis-people spaces and even in the queer community?
Read the comments on the second SPLC thing you posted. Man that was some messed up stuff. All 3 or 4 of the comments that dealt with Brennan's homophobia got ignored. Guess we'd better not get in the way of their righteous indignation, eh?
I think it conveys the same thing that #fuckmen does. Because I'm a rational adult, I don't think lesbians who use #fuckmen hate men, want to harm men or want to have sex with them. I think most adults know this.
did you get my message concerning TWs with linked tweets that ate verbally abusive towards trans* people?
Here's the deal:In a racist society, people are going to pick up some biases towards what is and is not beautiful. To *unquestioningly* accept that you’re not affected by racism when the thought of being with non-WASP people is repulsive to you is to choose to remain blind and support racism and is the cotton ceilingIn a fatphobic society, people are going to pick up some biases towards what is and is not beautiful. To *unquestioningly* accept that you’re not affected by fatphobia when the thought of being with fat people is repulsive to you is to choose to remain blind and support fatphobia and is the cotton ceiling. In an ableist society, people are going to pick up some biases towards what is and is not beautiful. To *unquestioningly* accept that you’re not affected by ableism when the thought of being with non able-bodied people is repulsive to you is to choose to remain blind and support ableism and is the cotton ceiling. When you screencap trans people having this exact conversation and then pretend that they're plotting ways of raping lesbians, you're being more than dishonest; you're being cruel and deceitful. The strawmanning that's gone on for a year by TERFs is fucking disgusting. As a feminist, do you have anything to say about the following? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/26/sleepless-in-austin-interview-awful_n_3997377.htmlIf so, you'll be discussing the cotton ceiling and how it relates to racism, fatphobia and slutshaming. Just because you might assert that this asshole's attitude is fucked up, are you therefore claiming that he MUST have sex with fat people? Of course not. The TERF strawman representation of the cotton ceiling as it relates to trans folk is as fucking disgusting as it is pathetic.
There aren't a whole bunch of trans farmers (or art-filled food forest farms.) Would you or any followers be interested in helping change that a bit by helping spread the word to folks who'd be willing to chip in $10 or more, or fundraising with us? Fundly.com/blueberrygirlsmiracle
Of course.
With national attention to trans issues, ie Manny & california's schools, it seems to be a lot of pandering & misunderstanding. Knowledge is key to moving forward here. What do you feel would be the best way to get trans 101 across in the news? Apart from having Masen Davis on every single segment.
What exactly does the affordable care act mandate in regards to SRS? My current company refuses to pay for SRS even though they are in California because they are self-insured. Would this change in January 2014?
The ACA doesn't explicitly say anything - one way or the other - about it. What it does say is that you can't discriminate against trans folk and it also says that it supports evidence-based treatments. Trans folk can easily make those arguments.
An FYI, just in case. Sheeee'ssss baaaccckkkk..... @ PegasusBug. Might want to go ahead and block her now. Have yet to see her post her name, but the writing style is identical, and uses many of her favorite phrases.
Yeah, I hear that she came back with @unicornbug - which was also banned by twitter for hate. I wonder if she thinks she's being banned for just being a lesbian or for just "critiquing gender" (a TERF euphemism for stalking trans folk and working to end trans protections). Maybe in her mind this isn't about violating twitter TOS; maybe in her reality this is all part of what "male violence" looks like.
Has any legal consultation been sought regarding the applicability of state and federal anti-cyberstalking statutes or state/local LGBT rights ordinances to unauthorized disclosures of private information by anti-trans campaigners?
Yes, but TERFs abuse these laws. eg, Some know that the anti-harassment laws in their state don't apply in cases of fraud. Therefore they stalk dating sites, reporting trans people for fraud, screencap the victim's profile and the fraud report and posts it on TERF sites so they can all enjoy ridiculing each trans person they do this to. This is what passes for a "feminist critique of gender" in the mind of a TERF.
In what manner are the anti-trans campaigners associated with the Southern Poverty Law Center? I find no mention of the names of a few of the prominent ones by googling restricted to splc.org.
