What happened to the Smash Lab? Has it been disbanded? I used to be a member, but left after it seemed to come to a crawl, and the game (SSBB) was starting to die in my region, and after coming back from a really long hiatus, noticed it didn't appear anymore.

The Smash Lab is defunct more or less. I kind of blame myself more than anything, because the more research I did into the general mechanics of the game, the more disenchanted I got with it. I realized the fate of studying mechanics is characterized by rationalization and intellectualization and, above all, by the disenchantment of the game. Precisely the ultimate and most sublime values have retreated from the game either into the transcendental realm of actually playing or into the brotherliness of direct and personal human relations.

Which car ride (to a tournament) have you enjoyed the most, and who was in the carpool?

My first tournament that I attended was SLAST 1 hosted by Mr. Doom in Wichita. I traveled down there with my roommate Joon, my ex-girlfriend Sam, and Fino + MJG.
The whole trip was a disaster overall (Joon and I got rocked in doubles because let's face it, we're bad. I went 0-2 in bracket, my ex-girlfriend Sam came down to watch but ended up ditching me at the tournament because she was visiting a friend, we had to leave before Fino was eliminated due to bracket snafu), but I just remember being so hopeful and encouraged by the game.
I remember MJG and Fino telling me they thought I could be really good at the game, and I believed them. In retrospect I suspect they said that for pot filling and carpool purposes, but I was arrogant enough to believe them. It was also the first time in a couple weeks that I'd been able to see Sam as well, since she was working a summer camp as part of her job. Obviously I wasn't happy with her for going MIA on the trip, but something about the trip has really caused Brawl to always have this romantic connection for me.
Back then I really enjoyed the game. But I sucked at it. Somewhere along the line as I got better, I started to dislike the game. It hasn't been until actually very recently (ironically when I decided to quit trying to play seriously) that I've been enjoying the game in the same way.
But like most players, my favorite trip was first out of the local area trip. It showed me a new world, but reminded what was important of the one I already had. It was such a beautiful disaster.

Any hyped sets recorded at Apex?

You know, off the top of my head I can't really recall if anything was particularly hype. I think the closest high level set I had was Koolaid vs. Seibrik, but I had a massive headache that day so I left the venue and had Grunyan manage the recording setup for me for a bit.

Did you have your own stream during Apex 2014?

I didn't have rights to stream at the event, only to record matches (which I assume is due to sponsorship contracts). However, I did get to record quite a few pools matches. I ended up having a few impressive guest commentators including Roller, KID Goggles, and Red Halberd.
There was a miscommunication with my stream manager, so a lot of the late sets don't have commentary since I muted the microphones. So I might just do commentary on those and edit in audio later.
Outside that, I normally stream at www.twitch.tv/legendoflux

how was living with the infamous fino

For those that don't know my competitive back story, Fino actually taught me how to play the game. I was pretty bad when I first started. By the time we were finished living together, I was probably above average as a competitive player aka where I'm at now.
Like any living situation, there was both good and bad. There have been some pretty well documented negative incidents (the black hole rises story, the pie story, plus more), but overall substantially more positive than negative I'd say. If anything, the negative things make extremely hilarious stories at this point, so maybe all positive.

Favorite Smash player?

This one's too hard to answer. I have people split into sort of categories-
For non-IC players, I'm obviously a huge MJG fanboy for obvious reasons, and still steal some of his tricks after all these years.
For IC players, when I first started playing, I was always really star struck by Hylian, and again still steal some of his tricks after all these years.
I've done some mentoring in my scene, and my favorite mentee by far is Fragger.
In terms of understanding the game at deeper levels by talking with them, Fino and Domo take the cake.
My favorite doubles partner is a toss up between FAE and Zigsta.
I'm sure there are more "favorite (insert category)", so if you ask those I'll probably answer haha

What do you think of Ganzo? Is he the best ICs? Or is he 2nd best ICs next to you?

I've only seen the one set from Ganzo against Mr. R. Anyone that wins by Belay is a champion in my book. I respect the "fear nothing, risk everything" plays in Brawl since it's so defensive oriented.
In terms of rating him, I'd probably put him behind Vinnie/Nakat/ESAM/9B at the top level, as well as Myo/Big D (when they play/travel) on the high level. However, he's definitely in front of me as far as the skill pecking order goes haha

Your commentary is better than Gunblade, Coontail, Keitaro, and various other people's commentary. By a LOT.

I don't really agree with that. Each of those commentators have respectable set calling abilities for various reasons, and I'm sure have a much larger following than I do. However, I'm particularly a fan of Coontail's style.
However, I guess I'm kind of known for going into the technical side of things, which is sort of ironic because I try my best to emulate Vin Scully (the voice of the LA Dodgers) in terms of pacing and stories about the players and things like that. If I get the chance to do more live stream calls, I'm probably going to focus on moving in that direction, since it really gives the chance for the commentator to be particularly poetic and creative with framing the scene.

How do you get somebody in the air as Wario?

You have to risk getting grabbed for the most part. Which means getting grab released.
Or you make like Kansas City and make Rainbow Cruise and Big Blue legal stages.
