What do you think are the upsides to having a wattpad account - and the downsides
i think i've been waiting for this question for eternity.
the upsides:
you get to put your writing out there for others to read and it's no longer just something you do in your spare time within the confines of your room. for some people, that's what they need; positive feedback [or nicely worded criticism] to urge them to continue writing.
writing/reading on wattpad also sort of opens the door for people to meet others who share the same interests as them. writing is sometimes an odd thing to tell people that you do, so when there's an entire community - literally - of people who like that sort of thing, it's pretty damn comforting.
you're also given the possibility of being liked enough to be published.
downsides:
stress - lots and lots of fucking stress.
like writing a bunch and then seeming as though you don't exist. wattpad used to be fun; it used to be a place where everyone was kind and everyone shared their work in a nice environment. but lately it's been a popularity contest and i personally think that's absolutely shit.
sometimes not getting noticed or getting enough comments/votes/reads may effect a person - please don't let that stuff define your writing quality, though, if you take anything from this post, take this.
there's also always that one person who thinks they're above everyone. and that shit ain't cool.
