Do you have any idea why they don't report PC numbers anymore?

If I'm remembering correctly it's because the magazine that used to collect and report numbers on PC releases went under in like... 2005? No one else does it and developers really aren't motivated to release numbers for reasons that should probably be obvious. With 男性向け stuff people have gotten pretty good at making educated guesses based on ranking/points stuff, but 女性向け PC is much more niche and sales aren't concentrated at any one retailer enough for their rankings to mean much on a broader scale (really just tells you what the profile of their customer base is). Like, Cool-B does a ranking of BL/otome (console and PC) sales every issue, but it's based on a point system with data from only two retailers (Animate and Stellaworth iirc) so it's not particularly useful (especially for 18+/PC releases, Animate sells most of them but it's not a focus for the store/customer base there, most of that stuff sells out quickly and is never restocked too).

What are the chances of getting either Taisho Mebiusline and/or Shingakkou translated? P.S. NTY!! was a great game btw

Hard to say. MG's certainly more dedicated to expanding the BL and otome lines now, so I don't think there's be an issue on that end. It'd kinda depend on whether the developers are interested. Shingakkou's situation is probably a little more complicated (sadly ;_;) since, judging from the no-voice only status of the download edition, it probably has much a more restrictive and/or expensive voice licensing contract.

Is there any other reason why the YOI kiss is covered by an arm, aside from artistic presentation?

I'm not Sayo Yamamoto, so I couldn't really say. I feel it's worth noting that many straight kisses are frequently presented in a similar manner though (cutting away to the eyes/etc). Given the series' general attention to dumb details it could be as simple as that's where Victor's arm mechanically would have been in the position they were in.

Is YOI aimed at fujos/women? There's been a lot of discourse over that that's been giving me flashbacks to retarded No.6 fans that didn't want to admit who that was aimed at, or that its genre/女性向け stuff could be good.

Anime original stuff doesn't really have explicit categorizations like that. It's obviously being marketed heavily toward women though, and both the director, Sayo Yamamoto, and the writer of the first draft (I guess that's the best way to describe it?), Mitsurou Kubo are women. Yamamoto's been dying to make an anime about figure skating for ages.

>[Good Haro] admitted to messing the translation for [Boob Wars 2] up due to laziness. >Kouryuu set up standards because of her bad translation. How accurate are these claims?

It's more complicated than that. First, I did a pretty shitty job on Boob Wars 2 for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was my lack of experience at the time, but the game being an over 800k character long nukige with a sloppy, error-riddled Japanese script to begin with didn't help.
You also have to understand how MG operated at the time. I was basically thrown a pile of scripts and given a vague deadline. I knew there was supposedly an editor working on it too, but I never spoke to them. I (wrongly) assumed that the editor was going to be more involved and would either correct style mistakes or tell me to stop if I was doing something dumb ex. the wiener incident––I translated every instance of おちんちん the same way because every character used the same damn word even if sounded horribly out of character. I opted for 'wiener' because I thought it was funny and figured my editor would either change it or tell me to knock it off (I mean it's the word wiener multiple times in every script...)––this didn't happen! Later, once I was brought into the staff chat to help make some corrections during beta, Doddler and I came up with a find/replace chart for dong terms per character/route and patched the game to fix that (I can't remember if that was before or shortly after release).
After that, I was doing a lot of groveling because I fucked up (kouryuu and evo were gracious enough to give me another chance) and started advocating for better communication and more checks during the loc process to make sure fuckups would get caught earlier and new people wouldn't be left entirely up to their own devices with no guidance. MG has changed a lot since then and mostly for the better I think (and I've gotten much better as a translator too––although, I have no illusions about being anything but mediocre).

do you need a college degree to have a chance working as a translator?

It's definitely a plus, but no, not really. Most loc companies (at least that I'm familiar with) have their own tests, so generally being competent with both languages and being able to pass the test is probably more important than any specific credentials.

How important to MG is the secrecy of a fan project? As in, will whether a fan translation is publicly known to exist or not impact MG's willingness to license, purchase, or otherwise work for the fan translation?

Hmm, I don't think that's super critical really. I think the bigger issue is whether the actual content of the patch is still private.

Do you know why Shuffle! isn't on the Mangagamer website anymore? Is there somewhere else I can tell my friends to buy it from?

The license expired. I think you might still be able to track down some of the remaining hardcopies at 3rd party retailers, but that's about it right now.

Now that you're done with Room No.9, do you have plans to work on your vn backlog? What titles do you plan on eventually getting around to?

Yeah probably! I kinda wanted to read Natsu no Kusari next just for some compare/contrast w/ Room No. 9 since they're vaguely similar (also it's short) and I've been meaning to finish BaraKi for a while too. Though I might end up playing the Utena Saturn game next if I can get that working.
I've got a bunch of other stuff I've been wanting to get around to eventually like the Hashihime trial (maybe I should just go ahead buy it...), but I'm also pretty behind on work because I'm terrible.

So, is there any chance that Room No.9 is going to get a port? Because that would be really great.

That seems pretty unlikely even if it does get licensed. ClockUp generally does scripting in-house and YU-RIS runs adequately enough on English systems that a port probably wouldn't be necessary.

So does Room nr 9 not have any happy endings? Is there a "true end" route or something like that?

Nothing's labeled as a "true" end or anything like that. They're just Ends A-F. The closest thing to a happy ending is where they get through it together with their sanity more or less still intact and their friendship possibly not completely destroyed. You're left wondering if they do ever see each other again at the end, but it's much more hopeful than the other endings (also has a different end video).
Like, if you were hoping for an end where they realize they're gay for each other and start dating when they get out that doesn't really happen (although I guess you could imagine it did after the end I just described). There is one end where they end up in a "relationship" after they escape but it's pretty awful because the experience completely broke them.

Can you say if the other project you're working on will be revealed this year? Or will we have to wait until next year's con season to learn what it is?

I honestly don't know!

So, is Room No.9 as good as you hoped it would be? And since playing it, is it a game you could see doing well in the west with a translation?

Hmm, that's a good question. It was definitely a bit different from what I was expecting, a bit more pure nukige than I thought it'd be––though it's not like I think that makes it bad. Like I was a little surprised that they never tried to escape or break the rules for one and we never really got a peek behind the curtain so to speak. But what we did get was a p. devastating story about a friendship being systematically destroyed (though I guess they sorta make it through in one route). Though, to be honest I was kind of hoping for some more intense emotional turmoil on the like "violence" side of things––like a fist fight or even a shouting match, but it never goes that far since they're both pretty resigned to the situation early on (I mean, I guess there is that one ending, but that's not really what I'm talking about).
Anyway, I think one of the most interesting things about Amemiya's stuff is that sex is presented as something complex wrt relationships and stuff. It's not just the culmination of a long, drawn out romance (or the start of one as is often the case in BL), it can be a lot of different things and affect people in different ways.
btw the "guro" was basically nothing imo, but I think that's the sort of thing that some people have a much lower threshold for (like I know a lot of people were really squicked out by the blood drawing scene but it didn't bother me at all so... I guess the fact that all the stuff they show is tame enough that it's very easy to imagine might make it worse though). Amemiya's idea of "roughly as kinky as NTY" is a little lol. The ero has a very different tone obviously though.
Also, looping crying BGV when the characters have emotional breakdowns was a brilliant idea.
As far as the second question goes. Honestly not sure? I mean, I'd happily work on it and don't think it'd be a bad pickup by any means, but it is, like, mostly sex and not a particularly happy game at basically any point but the very beginning which seems to be kind of unpopular with fujoshi over here? Although the fact that both of them are unwilling participants rather than one being an aggressor might change how some of the content would be received but idk.
Like I said before I think the ideal would be to get a more uh... "normal" BL game first otherwise MG's lineup looks like nothing but hardcore content that only deranged weirdos like me like (it's not on purpose I swear, it just happened to work that way so far––if you think I have shit taste in BL and can translate pls2apply).

Do you know why Kindred Spirits on the Roof isn't available in steam medial eastern regions (https://steamdb.info/app/402620/)? is that something from you guys or from steam?

Hm, I honestly don't remember. I'm not in direct contact with MG's Steam rep, so I only get bits of things from the other staff. I'm pretty sure it was because of the sexual content (specifically featuring same-sex relationships), but I'm not really sure exactly where the regional restrictions originated.

Is Lamento's fan translation of acceptable quality? If not, any particularly notable issues?

I haven't read it or the original so I couldn't say.

Do you think anything would change if any of the japanese power point translation companies actually did release sales numbers?

I guess it might help dispel some misinformation, but it probably wouldn't affect any meaningful change in terms of sales or whatever. I'm not sure most eroge developers would want people to know those numbers regardless though.

So how was YariMesu?

Pretty entertaining. I mean, it's a short nukige (although, considering most BL games have only a handful of H-scenes it sure seemed like a lot for a 2000 yen game!), it's pretty much exactly what it says it is.

Do you think the game Kichiku Megane will ever get an English release? It's been almost ten years and I'm starting to lose all hope. :(

I think you'll have to pin your hopes on a fan project for this one. Age and whatnot aside, Kichiku Megane doesn't really fit with the brand image VA seems to be trying to establish in the west.

Hey! Do you have any tutorial on how to work NTY or OZMAFIA!! in el capitan mac OS?

This general procedure should work using the latest version of Wineskin (it was broken for a while but they updated it) now that NTY is DRM free: http://filament.glittering-crux.net/wine/demo.html (the specific files will obviously be different). I forget if Oz uses an installer, if it does these instructions should work: http://filament.glittering-crux.net/wine/
If you're planning to buy either game based on the assumption that it'll work with Wine, try the NTY demo first and make sure you can get it working. Videos won't work unless you install some Winetricks but I forget which ones specifically. YUR-IS is smart enough to just skip broken videos instead of straight up crashing though, so either game should play fine, you just won't get the OP/credits sequences.
Also if you're planning to do this don't buy Ozmafia on Steam unless you have a PC or a VM and plan to transfer the files over to your Mac environment. Steam doesn't let you download files that aren't flagged for your OS so you'll end up having to do some roundabout shit to get Windows Steam running so you can download the files so you can install the game. (Unless there's some other workaround for doing this on Steam that I'm not aware of).

The chance of getting an older BL is slim to none, isn't it? :( (Messiah, specifically) I never see anyone asking for it, so my hopes aren't very high.

I wouldn't say old stuff is completely out of the question, but the situation can vary pretty drastically depending on the game. Older games do come with a fair share of additional issues though: from general compatibility issues to missing assets and just the fact that the resolution is lower than people are accustomed to (that is a much bigger issue than people want to admit, I'm not sure resolution is even something a lot of people who play VNs understand, like they'll all say they don't mind older or lower-resolution titles, but then they'll bitch endlessly that it's "too small" or "looks blurry" when fullscreened on a much larger monitor). And then there's also the issue of many old companies being defunct and there really being no practical way to acquire a license to the IP unless someone else happened to buy it up (just figuring out who that might be can be extremely difficult).

How high do you thing are the chances for the idolish7 game to release in english? I mean, the love live app seems to be super popular even outside of japan and with the upcoming anime and all, wouldn't an english release be pretty provitable for bandai namco? (I AM THIRSTY FOR MALE IDOLS)

I honestly have no idea! I'm still sorta surprised Love Live got brought over. i7 is pretty popular in Japan and there's going to be an anime so maybe? I don't really know what goes into those decisions though.

Why does every supposed kamige have this 'you must read X philosophers' works to understand this'. No one ever says that about great works for literature. Have you ever heard someone say "You should really read Kant before Hamlet" or "Plato is required reading before the Odyssey"?

I dunno if I'm really in any position to comment since I don't think I've read any of the "kamige" in question. More generally speaking, I think there are plenty of creative works where having some kind of contextual/background knowledge can enhance or change the experience––like I imagine Shingakkou's probably a bit of a different experience if you're not at least passingly familiar with early "BL" works from the 70s (tbh it's probably pretty different coming from a Western upbringing to begin with given the setting and subject matter, but that's a bit of a different issue) and I think some things in Utena read quite differently if you're familiar with the things that inspired and influenced the series. That's not to say either example isn't enjoyable in its own right, of course.
But, again, I'm not really familiar with the works in question and philosophy doesn't particularly interest me in general (I guess I'm more interested in character pieces than conceptual stuff!) so I can't really offer much insight on the matter.

Are there any BL games that you've started recently, have piqued your interest lately, and/or that you've been meaning to play? Also what's your opinion on the new Gundam series?

Recently? Not really. I guess I tried out the demo for Spray's new thing a little while back and it wasn't very good and I tried the demo for Anata Nikki Euforia and it was kind of interesting but the weird phone-game chapter split up thing wonked me out a bit and I haven't gotten back to it. I had started on BaraKi a few months ago but haven't sat down to finish it yet. I keep adding shit to my backlog but tbh I'm mostly looking forward to Room No. 9 right now. I think I have brain problems where I can't motivate myself to read/finish stuff if it's not brand new.
New Gundam? You mean G-Tek/IBO? I tried to give it a shot a few times because I have a lot of friends who were/are fans and I just couldn't get into it. Just kinda felt like a lukewarm amalgamation of things other Gundam series already did better so it didn't really hold my interest.
