Yes and no. I think both acknowledging and ignoring the author are legitimate ways of approaching a work. They give different perspectives on the same work, so I think that approaching a work either or both ways is perfectly fine.

Are you an idealist

Eeeeeh. I don't know much about the philosophy but looking it up, I agree with it a bit and don't agree with it a bit. Solidly neutral on it, I guess. So I guess that's a no, but I'm not like against it either.

when did you become such a VA nerd

Around the time my sister got a laptop. I borrowed it a lot and started going on Wikipedia and looked at my favorite cartoons, and started realizing how crazy it was who shared the same voices. This was around the time I was really into Naruto, so I learned of a lot of anime voice actors this way. The first anime I recall knowing of in Japanese and then getting an English dub was Ouran, and I found a video when the cast was announced using voice clips from their other roles to demonstrate the VAs. That's a lot of where it stems from right there. I learned Ouran's cast and subsequently of Funimation, kept doing this "looking up the voice actors" thing frequently, and by the time I went to my first con and met Vic Mignogna himself, I was pretty solidly a fan of voice actors, leading to my dub obsession nowadays.

Denied. I...don't...know seiyuus. At least not well enough to cast a show with them (a lot of English cartoons are broadcast in Japan with dubs, anyway). So...yeah, nah.
