basically we had to do a poster to promote the growth of New France (Canada back in the 1600s - 1700s) and i had the brilliant idea to procrastinate by writing some one-shot about it lolol
it's a really evil writing style that I can write easily:

A silence settled over the council.
The have know this for long - tried to ignore it, even - but now, Louis has spoken an imperial command and obey they must.
Absolutism. The rule of Monarchy that benefit the King himself, but not so much for the rest of the country. Indeed, it did have its positive perspective, seeing that he kept his people in place. Under the rule of the eccentric Sun King, the population of New France has grown, but not fast not of any important significance. However, the bad have balanced the good quite coequally; the schemers in the King's supreme court that had eyes for money and only for money, the injustice seen by onlookers that happened in that very court of his, and most important, the whispers of distrust on the cobblestone streets. No one had adjusted to his absolute rule yet, not completely, anyway.
They, the Sovereign Council, were merely pawns in the hands of those fortune-seekers. The court never viewed them as equal co-workers, and they hid none of their contempt.
One day, all of France will recognize their efforts. And that day, they will have as much prestige and importance as the court does.
But this time, the silence was not for the common reverie of jealousy, but a shared moment of an igniting spark of ambition.
True, they were much better people than those greedy men that lived in the Palace of Vesailles, but a little aspiration never hurts. Although the council was not as powerful as the Louis' associates, they were very much powerful nonetheless. This was the perfect time to prosper even more. Jean Talon, the Great Intendant, had set an example for them - contributing to the growth of the faraway colony and then getting into the court - so why not follow his footsteps?
Enthusiasm was crackling in the air.
All of this, of course, never has struck as unexpected to the calculating mind of Louis XIV.
He was the Sun King, He was all-powerful. He was all-knowing.
Those weren't just narcissistic acclaims made by himself that must be accepted in the society of France, it was the truth.
Oh, he thought smugly, and I'm quite handsome, too.
