Hi Mary I was wondering if you could tell me your guys process for translating vids at BTS trans also what is encoding? The differences between subbers typesetters and encoders? ><><
hi!! im not too sure what you mean by the process but basically we use trello and whenever there's a new video, we make a new card for it and our staff (both translators and subbers) just sign up for them~ our translators write out the translations on a google doc (which is in a shared folder so both subbers and translators have access)
if it's a longer video, there may be more than one translator and it can be split into dialogue and captions or if there are little captions, then split by time. the translators can help each other out if there's anything that they're unsure of, and even after consulting with each other, they're still not sure, they'll ask in our translators chat where everyone can pitch in to help!
in short, it's a group effort and we help each other out wherever and whenever we can!
encoding is merging the soft subs and the raw video, so that when you guys download our subs, the subs are actually on the video because after encoding, they become hard subs. youtube cc subs for example is soft subs, so when you download a yt vid with cc, you're not able to watch the cc on the downloaded video.
subbers is a common term for people who put subtitles on videos! timers are people who time lines so that they match the dialogue and/or caption on screen whereas typesetters basically make the subtitles look pretty, changing the colour, font, style, size, transition, etc
