I had overall higher grades than average. Had a hard time with math though, haha.
But I wasn't actually that much of a "good student"; I rarely did any homework, wrote my assignments the night before and made up almost all of my oral presentations on the spot. I preferred to study things I found interesting, not things other decides for me that ""YOU need to learn this".
But it worked out just fine, at least according to my grades.
