What is the etymology of the prefix 'cod' - as in 'cod philosophy', 'cod Latin'? TIA

Some people think the use of "cod" for phoney derives from an "old codger", but the term is actually seen earlier than the use of the slang term "codger". It relates probably to cod-head, like a fish's head looking stupid, and therefore the etymology of the cod fish itself, which is cognate with the Latin Gadus (which you see in its Linnaean name) and in fact the only one of the modern European languages which does actually derive from Gadus, is the most likely etymology in my opinion. Other European languages have terms like Bacallau, Kabeljau, Dorsch or the related Torsk, thorsk, dorsz, or they have terms deriving from morhua, like French and Italian have.
Cod-piece also exists in English, but sources reckon that is not related, and comes from a lost Germanic term for a pouch.

Is mastering academic skills in the sense of achieving high-scoring IELTS papers having anything to do with language acquisition?

There might be a correlation, but you don't have to take exams to be good at acquiring languages. In some cases people could have got through a particular exam by harnessing short-term memory functions and then two weeks later not remember much of what took them through the exam.
And let's face it, in two weeks you can put a couple of thousand words into short-term memory if you know your techniques. No use whatsoever for language acquisition in terms of a life-long skill, but indistinguishable to the examiner.

What is the most dangerous animal?

If I thought that infectious viruses or bacteria were classed as animals I would say them, but I don't class them as animals. I don't really think there are any dangerous higher animals unless you take unnecessary risks with them. Steve Irwin made a career out of manhandling powerful crocodiles on TV and then got killed by a fish. Go figure.

What's your favorite seafood?
