It was the guys from Funhaus, formerly of Inside Gaming where they were often cited by Kotaku and IGN. Plus the source has broken stories to them before and has a good working relationship with them.

Also the source said Microsoft is paying billions for the game when they only paid somewhere in the region of 2 billion for Mojang, it's not likely that they'd pay that much for a franchise that has been shitty for years.
They also said the game is 80% complete even though Norman Reedus said at the start of the year that they hadn't done anything yet.
Not to mention the majority of Japanese game developers refuse to let Microsoft have exclusivity considering the Xbox One is almost non existent in weekly sales readings in Japan
Aaaaand Konami gave a statement to IGN this week completely contradicting everything is "source" is apparently saying
Like the only reason Silent Hills isn't happening is because Kojima and Konami are on really shitty terms with each other and it's been going on for months to the point Metal Gear: The Phantom Pain was nearly cancelled

supposedly the source of the leak is an exec at Xbox whos leaked a few things in the past. he leaked the minecraft acquisition, release date of the kinect free bundle, and the xbone price drop

It was an anonymous source who told Rooster Teeth apprently and I question the legitimacy of anyone who felt the people they needed to leak something like this too would be Rooster Teeth

So I got a second job working in a bar in town on weekends and like i'd finish at 2am and my mum was telling me that she'd be ok staying up to come pick me up and her boyfriend is like screaming at me, calling me selfish and saying I should just cycle home and he can't get it through his head why it isn't the best idea for me to cycle 5 miles in the middle of the night ???

There's multiple reasons why it's just a clickbait rumour so I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you
