If you had 10 minutes on a popular TV talk show, what would you talk about?

The importance of diversity in media, feminism, film/TV, abortion rights, veganism and animal rights. Although that doesn't sound like I could do it in 10 minutes. At all. But I'm overly optimistic :)

What drink do you prefer when you’re thirsty?

Water with lemons. Or a glass of wine. Or a Bloody Mary. Depends on what I'm thirsty for.

Which country will win the FIFA World Cup in Brazil?

I couldn't care less. Plus, FIFA is a wretched, horrendous organization.

Do you have kids? If not, do you want to have any? What would you name them?

No. I don't think so. If I ever were to have kids, I probably would name them after a literary or film character.

What's the perfect place for a first date?

I'm a huge fan of dinner or drinks (in a lounge or relatively quiet bar) or really anyplace that helps facilitate good conversation. An art museum could be nice too. For me it's all about the conversation.

Been a vegetarian for 12 yrs. Not vegan but I do avoid wearing leather or buying anything made w/it. However, I have 1 pair of leather shoes that I got b4 going veggie, & I LOVE THEM. Is it wrong to keep them? Friend said I shouldn't but it's hard for me to find shoes that work for my feet & body :(

First of all, yay for being vegetarian for so many years!! That's awesome :)
I totally understand what your friend is saying. As a vegan, I don't wear any clothing made from animal by-products so I definitely think it's great to not wear clothing made of leather. But I'm not of the mindset that you have to immediately eliminate all of your clothing from your pre-veg years. It's not feasible for most people. Swapping items made of leather, wool, down, silk, etc. for vegan items as you can afford to do so is the way to go.
So is it wrong to keep just one pair of leather shoes from before you were vegetarian? It's not ideal but I don't think it's terrible. You already bought them, why get rid of a perfectly good pair of shoes?
Having said that, I always felt weird wearing a wool sweater or leather shoes from the time before I went veg. And I don't know about you, but my friends and family used to frequently ask (they don't anymore) if what I was wearing was vegan. I felt bad if something I was wearing wasn't. But then I would explain to them that I was transitioning my wardrobe to be all vegan. Also, wearing cute vegan clothes/shoes can be a great message or advertisement to friends and family.
If you're having trouble finding vegan shoes. Here's where I get mine. I get most of my flats, dressy boots at MooShoes (My absolute favorite store for vegan shoes but I have to save up as they can be pricey. On the plus side, they're comfortable, come in lots of sizes and last a long time.). Sandals from Oka-B. Rain boots from Hunter. Running shoes from Brooks. Inexpensive flats from Aldo, PayLess, Gap and H&M.
Hope this helps!

Which one of the Golden Girls are you most like?

I love this question! I'm most like Dorothy Zbornak. Although I do have my Blanche Devereaux moments.

What is your favourite TV show?

Sex and the City, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, Battlestar Galactica, Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, Mad Men, Lost, Breaking Bad, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9), Damages, Xena, Golden Girls

What talent do you wish you'd been born with?

If you could spend the next year living anywhere in the world, where would you go?

New York City, Paris or somewhere warm and tropical on the beach.

Is it ethical to eat meat?

No, eating meat is not ethical. Animals do not exist as props for humans to use or exploit for our entertainment. The very act of killing animals is antithetical to ethical. Not to mention, animals are treated cruelly on farms, whether they be factory farms (the overwhelming majority of farms) or small local farms.
Here are more of my thoughts on the topic: http://opinionessoftheworld.com/2012/05/14/why-its-unethical-to-eat-meat/

What do you think people should do more often?

Be kind, compassionate and honest. Spend more time with loved ones. Travel more. Try new things. Have more sex.

What do you think people think of you?

That I'm an intelligent, opinionated big mouth. Some people think that makes me fun and fabulous. Others, not so much. I'm fine either way.

What angers you the most?

Ignorance, sexism, misogyny, racism, classism, homophobia, biphobia, transmisogyny, transphobia, ableism, ageism, rape culture, speciesism, cruelty to animals. Basically, oppression of any kind.

How long have you been a vegan? Did you start by going vegetarian or go from omni right to vegan? Also are there are certain foods you miss? Not like want to eat them again, just miss the enjoyment, maybe a family member's recipe or something? I know I have a few of those... :)

I have been a vegan for 7 years. I started by going vegetarian. I cut out all meat and seafood. Then I stopped eating things that contained animal ingredients (like chicken stock, gelatin, etc.) I was a vegetarian for 11 years before becoming vegan. So in total, I've been meat-free for over 18 years. Wow, typing that, I just realized that's a long time!
YESSSS. There are definitely foods I miss. Cheese is the one I miss the most. Cheese was the one thing I swore I could never give up when I was vegetarian. But I did! I miss mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, omelets, cheesecake, York Peppermint Patties, Ben & Jerry's mint chocolate cookie ice cream.
Luckily, I have found delicious veganized versions of just about everything I ate before I went vegan. The vegan cheese from Miyoko Schinner's cookbook (I ate it at a vegan gala at Vida Vegan Con...fancy!) sates every cheese craving I've ever had. Divine.

What are three things that only people closest to you know about you?

My fears, the reasons I don't speak to most of my family, and what I'm like when I'm really angry. Although, I'm pretty much an open book so it's entirely possible other people know these facts about me too.

If you were given the chance to reboot your life from day one (not knowing how it might be different, good or bad), would you?

As tempting as it would be to start over...no, I would not. Despite the difficulties I have endured, the mistakes I have made, those situations and choices are what make me the person that I am. I do however, sometimes wish I could go back in time and give myself some sage advice.

What was the last YouTube video you saw?

The Game of Thrones / Frozen ("Let It Go") mash-up. Yes, I'm a geek.

What's the best concert you've ever been to?

Can't narrow it down to one. My three favorite concerts are Indigo Girls, Scissor Sisters and The Airborne Toxic Event.
