What u say about unity3d for beginners in game dev.
Depends
For total beginners, with no programming experience, its better to start programming with no engine. Start with a simple tic-tac-toe or pong or break out clone.
Its important to understand how games work on the basic level. Use python or Actionscript or C# for this. Then you can work with an engine like unity.
That would be my personal advice.
But then ... everyone is different, so you're going to have to give it a try. You could go with my advice, or you can start with game maker first, do a few small games, then work with unity.
I still think going to unity directly is a hard route, but if you want to give it a try, go for it. If its too hard, return to game maker or no engine, then return to unity.
