it's possible but tbh it's hard. mandarin is terribly, beautifully complex. there is no grammar for one to slowly work through, there is no set alphabet, no set pronunciation.
i think of all languages, immersion and exposure matters the most to mandarin speakers. (oh yeah to add on to my previous ask- the impact of reading is obvious here, because mandarin was the only language i spoke, and yet i'm terrible at it, while english was my strongest subject.)
