jq why did you make me sad :( i'm worried that i spend too much time in fandom. i'm graduating soon and all i do is fangirl. i don't know how my future will be.
hello! this is a very late reply sorry *^* you don't have to quit fandom just because you're graduating! it is possible to balance a career and fandom. if you start to work and you feel like you could do with less fandom, then by all means cut back then, but personally i think there is no point in prematurely depriving yourself of what makes you happy, especially during a time of uncertain change.
everyone in my work sphere knows i'm a fan and it has never hurt me. (due to my field, it has even helped me tremendously, both academically and professionally) honestly, no one really cares about what you do in your free time. the work place, the ~real world~ is filled with every sort of personality.
of course, this experience differs according to your field, but i can't imagine any career where your harmless personal interests are taken into question. your priorities will change when your circumstances change, and when you get new challenges, you will likely choose to fade out of fandom naturally when the time is right. or you could keep on indulging in fandom and this bubble of happiness. it's your choice.
