If you could invite anitwitters to your house for dinner, what would you cook for them and why?
I dunno! I don't cook often, so I guess I'd ask around for what everyone would like, their dietary needs, if they prefer cinnamon or butterscotch, and so on. Then I'd use that information to figure out something that works for everyone. Wouldn't a hot pot be fun, though?
Hallo. How's your day? (pls dun mind the time zone difference, if there is)
Well it is about noon here, and I've been up since about 11 last night since I had a night shift. But I got off work a few hours ago and I just sort of laid on my couch until just about now. Not a bad day so far I'd say.
Of all your pet-peeves, which is the strangest?
semicolons in subtitles I guess. it never looks right.
What band is your favorite at the moment?
PAP of the very first image on your camera roll?
it is too lewd to show I am sorry
Could it be that people blame not because they think the world is a just place but because of their belief that they're better than others? That people can overcome misfortune by their strong will & personality alone & belittle people who don't manage to do it by blaming&judging them for being weak?
this question is worded kinda strangely, but I think I get the gist. that, or it is a rorschach test of sorts, which could also be true.anyway, yes, what you describe here is definitely a relatively common way of thinking, especially in the united states where there is a culture somewhat of "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps". I understand why it is appealing - the idea that if you just try real hard, everything can work out. at its most pure and good it inspires hard work, and moving forward through your best efforts.in reality though, it isn't an especially healthy or even useful way of looking at the world. this is because it runs entirely under a few assumptions that just aren't true. the first is that life rewards hard work as a rule. the second is that your circumstances are entirely under your control. in reality, a large part of success in life comes through luck. where you were born wasn't your decision. the wealth and stability of your family growing up wasn't your decision. the people you meet and have to interact with are usually not your decisions. the mental and physical issues we were born with are not our decisions. and so on and so forth. there are so many variables to life that none of us are really in control of, and all of us have a different set of them, some better and some worse than others. and even when you work really hard and put your best foot forward, many times chance alone dictates whether or not it will all pay off.when you go through life looking at the misfortune of others and think that they could be in a better position if only they were stronger, or tried harder, and so on, you are making huge assumptions about their individual circumstances at best and completely ignoring the reality of life at worst. in every case, you are not only devaluing their experiences and efforts, but your own, too, since your own successes and failures have been heavily influenced by the RNG we call life as well.this isn't to say we shouldn't try hard as much as we can, nor that we shouldn't pursue the things and positions in life we desire as fervently as we can. we should; if we care about something, if we want to achieve something, we should always do the best we can in that effort. instead, I mean to say that this. we can't look at every failure as entirely a personal one, because that denies our own work and places much more negative burden on ourselves than we should. we also can't look at every success as entirely a personal one, because that devalues the support of the people around us, devalues the work put in by the people who tried for the same thing and failed, and gives an undeserved pat on our own backs for the little lucky strikes life throws our way every once in a while.I am almost out of characters, so I hope this does something to answer your question even a little bit. thanks for asking.
If you were to get a tattoo today, what would you get and where would you have it placed?
you're gonna call me a weeaboo but I want this shit on my shoulder, or just straight up on my hand if I am rich enough that no one can do anything about it
What kind of surprises do you like?
the money kind
Xbox or PlayStation?
the xbox video apps are in general way more clean and easy to use than the playstation equivalents so xbox I guess. I basically never play video games though
Who is your favorite fictional character?
What do you wish you'd had time to do this summer?
I graduated! my summer never ends until i successfully find a job! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Anime Question of the Day! What's your favorite harem? (Yes, terribly exciting, but someone submitted this question a while back. Obviously my harem is the best harem~)
What is one thing that happened in your life that without it happening, you would never be where you are today?
Sure, five years ago when a friend in irc asked if I would be up for watching a ton of stuff for a project on a blog. My life since then would have played out significantly differently if I had said no.
You're out of anime? Have you watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes?
By "out of anime," I mean I'm caught up on all my weekly shows. But yes I've seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes! I am also up for any and all recommendations though it is much easier if they are legally stream-able.
Is there a story behind your profile picture? What is it?
Anime Question of the Day! Yamaga Toro Matsuri is one of the three major fire festivals held Kumanato ("Land of Fire"). It is most notable for having a tradition where women don lanterns on their head while they dance. Speaking of this, what is your favorite hat (in anime/manga)?
Anime Question of the Day! By US time zones, Japan surrendered to the Allied Powers of World War II on this day in 1945. This ushered in a decade of American occupation and the beginnings US-Japanese military cooperation. Name an anime, manga, or light novel that references the US military.
Anime Question of the Day! On this day in 1993, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lost control of the diet for the first time since 1955. Though--it quickly regained power 11 months later. What do you know about the LDP? Can you name some anime that make reference to or take jabs at the LDP?
If your anime is about criticizing the LDP I am always into it.
Hello! How's your day been?
It has been good. I have been watching anime, drinking, and playing games with some friends.
Anime Question of the Day! For most students in Japan, school lets out this week. It's time for summer vacation! What do Japanese people do on their summer vacations anyways? Imagine and tell us what your favorite anime characters have planned for this summer.
Anime Question of the Day! Today is the climactic parade of Kyoto's Gion Matsuri, the largest matsuri in Japan (and one of the 3 best)! It actually lasts the entire month of July. Why don't we grab some food at the street stalls while we watch the floats? What would you try? (e.g yakitori, taiyaki)
I am not really into seafood but I want to try takoyaki /so bad/. The one place that sells it around me was closed for a reserved party the night I was in the area, so I still haven't. To be fair, it was Super Bowl Sunday, but still. Also, candied apples are always great.
Anime Question of the Day! Today is Nachi-no-Hi-Matsuri, a fire festival held in the Kumano Mountains during which *MASSIVE* torches are carried up and down the shrine. Somewhat unrelated, but the Kumano region is dubbed "The Land of the Dead". What is your favorite anime with undead/spirits?
What do you think of canned foods and how often do you eat them? Is there any particular canned food brand that you like/trust?
I mean I am not really a competent cook by any stretch of the imagination, so I am not informed on whether or not canned foods are good for you at all. I think the only kind of canned food my dad buys is corn.
Anime Question of the Day! Happy birthday to Yuka Iguchi, a Japanese voice actress notable for voicing characters like Tsukihi Araragi (Bakemonogatari) and Index (A Certain Magical Index). What is the best or most creative birthday episode/scene you have ever seen in anime?
Anime Question of the Day! Today is the opening ceremony to Mt. Fuji's climbing season ("Fujisan Yama-biraki"). Mt. Fuji is a cultural symbol of Japan and an active volcano! Can you identify an anime that features magma, lava, or volcanic eruptions?
Anime Question of the Day! On this day in 1981, Nintendo released Donkey Kong, a platformer arcade game which saw Mario's debut. Speaking of Mario and foreigners, what do you think of the un-japanese-ness and eclectic hair/eye colors of many anime characters (e.g. blond/pink/blue/purple)?
Anime Question of the Day! Happy Tanabata! During this holiday, people often write their wishes on "tanzaku" (tiny sheets of paper) and hang them up on a bamboo wishing tree! Would you care to share something that you wish for?
don't think I am the best person to ask about this, but here are some ideas that I have had or helped me get to writing before: -ask other people for topics and pick one -think of a part of anime/animation that piques your interest and research it until you have material for an article that can do for others what your research did for you -start a watch of a show and watch one episode a week, and promise yourself to write about it every week after watching. this works better when you are rewatching a show you know you will have a lot to say about. you can do more than one episode a week if you think you can handle the schedule. -don't worry about every post being a sprawling informative masterpiece. short "I've had this on my mind recently" posts are fun in their own way, not nearly as stressful, and doing them frequently (one/two a week) keeps you writing so bigger pieces aren't as daunting an idea
in general forums are all the same. unless you have a club or something there is no cultivating the conversation to make it insightful or interesting. twitter is fun because you can closely curate your surroundings but the format limits it to just reactions mostly? long conversations are hard to have and hard to follow sometimes, but maybe my twitter level just isn't high enough. irc is the next level where you can choose who to frequently talk to and it is nice and casual, but that frequently leads to discussion just veering off course. twitter and irc are both very guilty of quickly creating impossible to penetrate cliques. really I think the best medium for discussing anime is blog posts. a good/interesting blog post is really a jumping off point for discussion, and I have found that discussion to be the most worthwhile.
What does "obscure" mean? I have found it means different things to different people. If you gave me a metric, I would be able to answer better to you, I think. But, a few shows I think less people have seen than I would like: Ookiku Furikabutte Gosenzosama Banbanzai Giant Killing Flag UN-GO TO-Y gdgd Fairies
Anime Question of the Day! April 6th was the day the Pioneer 11 probe was launched. Exploration of space has fascinated humankind for decades. Try this question: can you name a space anime that is NOT a mecha anime?
Anime Question of the Day! No school vacation is complete without video games! Talk about some video, computer, or handheld games that have been adapted into anime. Are there any good ones? What about the other way around? Do you know some good video games that have been adapted from anime?
Man I've never played it but Gungrave's anime is great. I bought the game's artbook just because I liked the show.
Anime Question of the Day! March 21st is the spring equinox ("Shunbun no Hi"), a national public holiday in Japan. This is a week of "higan", which is traditionally a time for families to visit the graves of one's ancestors to burn incense. Can you identify an anime/manga scene that depicts "higan"?
Didn't that happen in Bleach? Still one of my favorite little arcs in anime.
Anime Question of the Day! This weekend is the start of the 87th annual "Spring Koshien", Japan's national high school baseball tournament. Many high school students dream of playing at the Koshien. Did you have a dream of your own in high school?
All I dreamed in high school was that I would be able to graduate and support my mother who supported my college dreams. So far that has been successful, so I hope that keeps going.
Anime Question of the Day! How much of your own money do you typically spend on anime and manga? As an overseas fan, it's fairly easy to obtain anime/manga without paying a cent. If you were forced to acquire all your animanga through legal means, would your otaku experience change significantly?
I have a Crunchyroll account and a Funimation account (which I recently upgraded - thanks, Broadcast Dubs!) that I pay monthly for, so there is that. Because of the ease of streaming, and how many shows are available, I very rarely buy physical releases, but when something I truly, truly love is announced, I always set aside money for it. Doesn't happen often, but it does. Speaking of which, Funimation is releasing Terror in Resonance on home video in Fall!
Post a picture of the best sports team in the world!
Anime Question of the Day! March 18th is the birthday of Shinichiro Miki, one of the most prolific voice actors currently alive with over 300 titles to his name. When you're watching anime, how easily can you recognize or distinguish voice actors without seeing the cast list?
Oh wow, that is cool to know! Miki Shinichiro is one of my favorites. I am getting better at recognizing (Japanese) voice actors all the time, and when one is /really/ bugging me I will always pause the show to look it up so that I will stop thinking about it.
Anime Question of the Day! What do you think of the statement that too much anime/manga rots one's brains? Have you ever gone through a period in your life where you struggled to balance anime and reality? From your experience, what's the best way to cope with this imbalance?
I haven't had that problem. Started watching ~20 shows a season in 2010 and now I watch ~50 or more, and I have never felt that burnout that people talk about all the time. I suppose I must be lucky.
Anime Question of the Day! March 17th is the birthday of Shinji Kagawa, the 2012 Player of the Year in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Speaking of sports anime, are more realistic or more exaggerated shows enjoyable to watch? Does being a fan of the sport improve the viewing experience?
Sports is probably my favorite genre of anime and I have never, ever been a fan of sports in real life. Well, attending games is fun, but I have yet to see the appeal in following a team for a whole season or whatever. I like both kinds of sports shows, too, your Giant Killings to your Kuroko no Basukes. So I think the hurdle to getting into sports anime isn't liking sports (though it probably helps) but instead understanding what sports as a framework can bring to a story and its characters.
Anime Question of the Day! What do you think of the claim that anime gets less relevant with age? Do you think there is an ideal age to be watching anime? Give yourself 15 or 20 years—do you think you'll still be watching anime after all that time?
As I age "anime" as a whole doesn't get less relevant, but certain themes and genres seem to become more and less relevant. That has less to do with age as a number and more of me growing as a person, though - what I liked when I was obsessively direct downloading and consuming batch episodes of Bleach is very different from what I like now as I legally stream Shirobako every Thursday. Perspective I guess.
