Any advice for young people who want to go into the field of broadcasting/producing? :) you are awesome!

do as many internships as you can! i did 4 in college, and 1 in high school. they provide the hands-on experience (and connections) you need to get your first job. speaking of that first job... don't be afraid to start from the bottom and work your butt off and learn new things with every chance you get. before you know it, you'll be promoted to your next gig... good luck!

How did you know journalism was for you? Was there ever a point in your life where you thought maybe you should pursue a different path??

I use to put together mock-newscasts in my living room when I was like 10 years old. I always was drawn to journalism and television. I never considered pursuing another field.

What do you think about self-service Healthcare...Empowering people to take charge of their health through biometric kiosks in retail?

I think it can be a great health tool to compliment face-to-face in office doctor appts.

How likely do you think the US will strike and Syria, and if so when?

I'm not in a position to answer that. Sorry!

What was the highlight of your day today?

I had a fun visitor to CNN for lunch today. That was my highlight.

Bit of a techie Q...can you talk at all about your workflow? What format you shoot on...etc...Post workflow? Avid?

We shoot on Sony XD discs. And edit with Final Cut.

You are a gem...keep up the good work. And you gotta give it to the person who asked the ticklish question...they had guts!!! Good response. LOL! Be safe. Thanks for giving up some time tonight to answer Q's.

thanks :)

I'm always curious to ask people who have thousands of people following them on social media...have you had any strange run-ins with a follower? Had to be a little odd the first time it happened! :)

I have run into followers in real life before! But it's actually never awkward and instead pretty neat. I love my tweeps. :)

Is there one place that you've traveled to on a story...that you'd love to go back to on a vacation?

Cambodia and Kenya

Any stories you are working on that you can give us a sneak peak on?

i cant give things away quite yet! :) but one story i can share that i'm working ahead on is some big coverage pegged to obamacare (which goes into effect oct 1). stay tuned!

How many of the stories that you do are ideas that you've pitched...versus ideas that are given to you to produce?

most of the news-of-the-day stories I do are assigned to me. but the investigative pieces or in depth features I do are mostly things I come up with, develop, pitch etc

What do you think are the biggest problems with the medical care people get in the US?

one of the biggest problems is that they don't get it until it is too late! there are a ton of problems with our healthcare system, but we (the patients!) need to take responsibility too. if people actually got their annual physicals, and had regular check ups (which are covered by insurance!), we could catch problems and diseases before they become a catastrophic emergency which is not only more dangerous, but more costly to treat.

Do work with the same photogs all of the time? Or do you just take who is there that day?

for breaking news or international stories, we tend to work with the same 2 or 3 photogs who really know our style, pace, and whom we know we vibe with well. because trust me: when you are working 20 hours a day in a disaster zone, you have to really like the people you are with. :)

Not a question...but have followed you on social media for a while...really enjoyed your insight/behind the scenes perspective. Wish those in news would do more of this. Many times the best stories are the most "human". Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your world.

thanks so much for saying that. i appreciate it.

Have you ever gotten yourself into a situation while working abroad where you thought "Uh, oh...I'm no longer safe here.."??

We've been in some dangerous spots. and there have been some scary moments. but I think the key is just being incredibly aware of your surroundings and really trusting your crew. we always make a pact that if 1 of us doesn't feel 100% comfortable with something, we don't do it. No questions asked.

Describe your perfect evening...

sitting on a patio with your friends and/or family and just talking and laughing for hours. I'm sort of a homebody.

Do you plan to continue to focus on medical issues or branch out to other areas of reporting like covering politics?

While I do mainly focus on medical/health/consumer advocacy related stories, they almost all include a political, global affairs, tech, entertainment or news of day peg. So it's actually an incredibly well-rounded beat.

Are you always "on call" for breaking news or do you have periods where you don't have to go if you don't want to?

Well you never "have" to go. But if it's breaking news, I would never *not* want to be there. I actually left a Maui vacation early to come home, pack, and then head to Pakistan. And last summer, I cut a vaca short to head to Cambodia for breaking news. But truthfully, I didn't think twice about those decision. I would have been disappointed if I didn't go.
