Where does all the expenses go when making a yoyo? What sets apart a $40 yoyo from a $150 yoyo? How do you turn a piece of Al round stock (cheap) into thee yoyo that cost lots?
Bar stock isn't the biggest expense. You are right. First, you are paying for me to answer your questions. I'm not cheap you know. After that....well what else do you need to know? Maybe they should cost more and I should get a pay rise? Please? The World Champion won on a $45 metal yoyo which is made to the highest standards. It isn't performance. What is different with that and a $150 metal yoyo? maybe country of origin, efficiencies in production techniques, scale of operations. the intangibles like Exclusivity, scarcity, the warm fuzzy feeling you get buying something special, the power you feel buying something expensive showing you are killing it in life.Just like the diamonds on the soles of your shoes.
Have you considered making a mass produced bargain yoyo that could be sold for under $5 at every department store and drug store like the imperials and butterfly's? Something cheap but advanced enough to help get this generation into yo-yo. All it takes is one model to start a boom.
yes, but we can't even get 60gm of quality plastic at a price to sell it under $5. Good yo-yos aren't under $5.
Where did the "JK" get it's name? also why did we not see a bigger production of them?
We were building a line for a sponsored player at the time with said initials. After the yoyos were ordered, he discontinued association with our brand. We sold the yoyos promptly without using his name image or likeness for the process. There were about 2000 of them sold so it was a significant run.
BEN, just make the TI 888 like the catch 22. Limit it enough with a high enough price and it will work out. 50-100 units at $500 would easily sell.
Let's do the math. $400 cost of production, prototyping amortized over a batch of 50 is $40 per yoyo. $440 cost. Before we use any for promotion, keep a single Yoyo or allow anyone in the team to get a YOYO. Now if we make nothing, out of our $21,000 investment, and pass it onto our retailers at cost, you would be looking at close to $800 retail. Which is pretty hectic.... And why you won't see it happening :-)
I heard Titanium modernized 888 and soiled my pants.
Seriously, and this is to BEN, if there were ever an opportunity to hush the nay-sayers about YYF quality, a USA made modern TI 888 on its 8th production year would be a slap in the face to all those who doubted you.
Yeah and a $2k prototype bill plus a $400+ cost of production would slap us in the face too!
What are the chances of someone winning worlds without being sponsored?
there is no reason an unsponsored player couldn't win worlds. Its just improbable because most people align themselves in a win/win relationship that sponsorship should be before they get to the top.
