⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀another ordinary day in riverdale high. another ʙᴏʀɪɴɢ algebra lesson. another irrelevant subject you won’t need in the future as much as teachers make you believe. these are the main thoughts of every ordinary student, except betty’s. our favorite hitchcock blonde was occupied with solving a math equation, head full of thoughts. and those thoughts were definitely not math-related.

⠀⠀⠀⠀earlier this week, a woman was found in the woods, limbs ripped off of her body, throat cut. nothing like ᴛʜɪꜱ has⠀e v e r⠀happened in riverdale. the only crazy killers in here were the black hood and the gargoyle king, aka her dad and aunt. things have been pretty rough with ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴀʀᴍ and her mother going missing, but her step-brother is in town and he’s a freaking fbi agent. they WILL find their mom, eventually.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀the police think that it was a wild animal, perhaps a bear or a cougar, that had attacked the poor woman. well, betty thinks it’s bullshit. there’s a new killer in town and betty ᴡɪʟʟ find out who the hell he is. the sound of a loud shrieking noise filled the classroom, signaling that the lesson has ended, making betty slightly jump in her seat due to being lost in thought.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀sighing softly to herself, betty collected her stuff and exited the classroom. making her way to her locker, the blonde was greeted by this uneasy feeling of being watched. furrowing her eyebrows, she turned around only to be met with a stranger. “ oh, gosh. you startled me! ” letting out a nervous chuckle, betty readjusted her backpack strap on her shoulder and smiled at the brunette.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ right, you’re the exchange student from bulgaria. i’m betty cooper, by the way. ” poor girl. being sent off to riverdale in the midst of this chaos must have been a cultural and LITERAL shock for her. “ yes, of course i’ll show you. follow me, please. ” walking down the hall and turning right, both girls stood in front of the library. it wasn’t that hard to find, to be honest. “ here we are! you’ll find everything you need right here. ”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ you never really talk about your mom, so i thought, that, well━ ” shrug. betty was never the type of girl, that believed⠀a n y⠀kind of rumors, preferring to find the source of the information herself. but, THIS type of rumor had caught the interest of our favorite ɢɪʀʟ ɴᴇxᴛ ᴅᴏᴏʀ∶ once upon a time, not long ago, billy hargrove’s mother died in a tragic death, leaving the poor boy to grieve over his loss alone.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ᴡʜʏ ᴀʟᴏɴᴇ, betty wondered. well, to put it in better words, billy’s father couldn’t deal with the absence of a woman in his household, that’s why he found billy a new mom, (t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶a̶ ̶l̶i̶t̶t̶l̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶e̶p̶s̶i̶s̶t̶e̶r̶). didn’t end well for the californian heartthrob. so, betty being the sweetheart that she is, decided to gift billy something that,⠀m a y b e,⠀would fill the heartache his young self had experienced.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ please, tell me it’s you in the picture. ” to lighten up the mood, betty threw a harmless joke his way. the little boy in the picture looked NOTHING like the ʙᴀᴅ ɢᴜʏ that stood in front of her. the only sign of recognition was his famous mess of dirty blonde curls. and the dimples. judging by the look of his sudden change in demeanor, betty came to a realization, that she has overstepped a line.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ billy, i’m so sorry. i shouldn’t have given you that picture as a present. ” gulping down the awkward failure down her throat, blueish-green orbs shot up to his baby blue ones, sending him a sympathetic look. “ i understand where you’re coming from. losing a parent is really hard. believe me, i’ve been there. but, you can’t blame this town for what happened to you. ”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀his frustration mixed with fiery impulsiveness made him cut the conversation short and get into his car. betty watched the whole scene unfold with a shake of her head. “ here we go, again. ” muttering softly under her breath, the blonde took three steps away from his roaring car, scared he might hit her with it in his reckless state of mind. a skeptical look was sent his way as the wind picked on, blowing softly through her loose locks.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀being the student body president, and an occasional mentor to new students, betty cooper was obligated to make billy hargrove feel welcomed in riverdale high. and what better way to do it, then wish him a happy birthday? a nice, little gift with a ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ ʙɪʀᴛʜᴅᴀʏ wish card will do the trick, right? fingers crossed, ’cause the boy she was supposed to congratulate, was the kind billie eilish writes songs about.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ hey, i’ve got something for you! wait right here. ” stupid, stupid betty. all-day she tried to find billy, and now when she finally caught up to him in school’s parking lot, the blonde n̶a̶n̶c̶y̶ ̶d̶r̶e̶w̶ forgot his gift in her locker. with a breathless chuckle, betty hurried back to the waiting boy and handed him his gift. “ here’s your gift, billy. from the behalf of the student council, and me, we wish you a happy birthday! ”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀a pair of nervously excited blueish-green eyes watched the curly-haired californian. as for the gift, well, betty had to do some digging in the good ole internet. she found a picture of, presumably, young billy and his mother. he had won a prize, something to do with surfing. betty thought it was a nice gift. that, and also free carwash coupons for his beloved blue chevrolet camaro.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀so far everything was going p e r f e c t l y, ━ the dim lights created a cozy and ɪɴᴛɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ atmosphere, the type that made you think about the people you want to spend the rest of your lives with. and for betty, that person was a͟r͟c͟h͟i͟e͟ ͟a͟n͟d͟r͟e͟w͟s͟. archie was everything betty looked for in a guy: charming looks, good grades, loyal to a fault, hygienically clean and had eyes only for HER.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀or so she thought. curse that freaking bell. curse that freaking black-riding-hood vibe. curse that raven-haired, rich girl. curse veronica freaking lodge. as her expensive high heel stepped inside ‘️️️ pop’s, ’ the whole aura changed into something betty shudders to ’till this day. veronica’s confidence and witty remarks were the two main things that ruined the ᴍᴏᴏᴅ. now archie’s eyes were not only for betty.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀once veronica left, t̶h̶a̶n̶k̶ ̶g̶o̶d̶, their whole ᴍᴇᴇᴛ ᴜᴘ wasn’t the same anymore. they quickly finished up their milkshakes and left the diner with an awkward hug and ‘️️ see you tomorrow ’s. yeah, tomorrow. tomorrow will mark the first day when betty will refer to herself as a ꜰʀᴇꜱʜᴍᴀɴ. has a nice ring to it, although she thought that by the end of tonight, she would call herself future mrs. andrews.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀the morning arrived far too soon. all night betty was tossing around her queen-sized-bed, mind full of thoughts of archie and ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴇᴡ ɢɪʀʟ. the taste of breakfast (̶e̶g̶g̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶u̶n̶n̶y̶ ̶s̶i̶d̶e̶ ̶u̶p̶,̶ ̶b̶a̶c̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶f̶r̶e̶s̶h̶l̶y̶ ̶s̶q̶u̶e̶e̶z̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶j̶u̶i̶c̶e̶) left nothing but a dull, tasteless emptiness in her mouth. betty SO didn’t feel like herself today. but, she had a reputation to uphold, and a tour to guide.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀“ veronica! you’re up early. ” ignoring the brunette’s rather pleasant compliment, betty quickly switched to her professional side and straightened up against her locker. “ well, good thing that you’re here already, ’cause i have a lot of things to show you. ” she began her walk with a turn on left, heading slowly towards the cafeteria. “ so, why don’t you ask me some questions? what interests you the most? ”
