Just wondering what's up with the 2016 Scout I've heard about? What's changing on it, if you can share? Haven't heard any mention on your ask page yet?

We kicked around some changes and decided that we don't actually want to change the Scout. It's really, really damn good as it stands. So instead we're looking at taking these ideas and suggestions from Petr and making a NEW return top with them. Nothing finalized yet, but we'll announce more details once we get a little further in the process. -Steve

i dont own anything of value that i care about with "made in china" written on it so to answer ur question no i dont have to scratch the "made in china" off anything else... And im not Canadian either, I just respect companies who stimulate their own economies rather than cutting corners lol wake up

We do stimulate our own economy. CLYW is a Canadian company, that pays taxes in Canada, and we've just moved all our metal production back to Canada. We tried producing a plastic return top in Canada, and the whole process was 5x as expensive with poor quality results. Moving plastic production to China isn't a matter of money...we were willing to spent the money to do it in Canada. It was a matter of quality.
Since most of the world has freely moved their manufacturing to countries like China, these countries have leapt pretty far ahead in terms of quality and technology. The fact of the matter is that even Flambeau, the company that owns Duncan, which is and always has been a plastic molding company with multiple molding facilities in the United States, has moved much of their molding to China because the quality is better than what they can accomplish without completely re-tooling all of their facilities. So if a company who's primary business is making plastic says that China is better at making plastic, what chance does a tiny operation of CLYW stand of proving that wrong?
We tried Canada for plastic molding. It was a disaster. The options became 1) Give up on plastic return tops or 2) Make them in China.
I'm woke. I know how the world works. If you think this is about "cutting corners" you seem to have mistaken our company for one that doesn't care about quality. There are two things we care about: our team, and our quality. Everything else is window dressing. If you don't believe us on this, then you don't believe in CLYW and there is no reason for you to support us. If you do believe us, then I'd suggest leaving the "Made in China" on the side of your Big Dipper because it's always good to give credit where credit is due.
We aren't just making phone calls and cutting ourselves off from how our products are made. We flew to China. We know exactly who is making these. We know that they are people, just like us, working hard, just like us, to support families, just like us. That's good enough for us. If that's not good enough for you, then we appreciate your past support and we're sorry to lose you as a customer. -Steve

Nice pickup with Isaac and Grey! I can tell they're going to be doing some big stuff in the coming years.

Thanks! We're excited to have them on the team! -Steve

will a release date for the big dipper come out soon? need a countdown timer to stare at :|

Yes, very soon. -Steve

will the new yeti's be made in china? the "made in china" on the side of the big dipper makes it look pretty shite. Im gonna spend a good few hours scratching that off with an exacto knife :(

Yep, the new Yeti is made in China.
Are you also going to scratch off "Designed in Canada"? Is the issue that you don't like anything made outside of your country, or you just don't like anything made in China? Do you scratch off "Made in China" from everything else you own and use that was made in China? -Steve

Not a CLYW question but in your opinion, is 200(and above) dollars too overprice for a 6061 metal Yoyo? Or maybe a 7075 as well. Do tell me why as I'm thinking maybe the way the machine makes the Yoyo or what not that cause the Yoyo to cost a bomb.

Eh. The thing is, return tops are worth whatever you are willing to pay for them. I don't judge what people pay for things they enjoy. I've got a few pair of $300 fancy Japanese selvedge jeans, and most people I know would lose their damn minds at the idea of paying that much for jeans. My buddy Eric owns a hella pricey Audi that he absolutely adores, and I would never spend that much money on a car.
It's all a matter of what you can afford, and what these things are worth to you. As long as you can afford it, and it makes you happy, buy what you like. -Steve

Are all your yoyos have the same responsive system (CLYW pads ) ? beacuse I heard that some of your yoyos have Duncan responsive system . Thanks !

Everything we currently make uses Snow Tires. There was a run of small bearing Bassalopes waaaaaay back in the day that use a different size pad, but that's it. -Steve

What is your estimate on the release date of the Blizzard? Also, for your tenth anniversary you should do a like super limited run of reproduction OG Peaks!

First Blizzard release will be PNWR! -Steve

how much does the new yeti weigh? with a diameter of 64mm i expect it to be quite hefty?

I think the protos are around 68 grams. -Steve

Hey CLYW, I can now afford one of your yoyos. You always say the Chief is the first yoyo to get but there are none on sale. What yoyos would be the next best thing? Can you suggest 5 yoyos in order the best being at the top? This will help a lot, thanks!

I always recommend the Chief as your first because it's so very CLYW. Beyond that, pick anything that has specs that appeal to you. I can honestly recommend all of it! -Steve

hey this is more of a steve brown question than a clyw question, but just curious what would I need to get started messing around with 5a, can I just grab a counter weight and experiment? and is there a good entry level return top I should pick up? would a sasquatch borealis or yeti work well?

Any return top you like for 1A should work fine for 5A. Once you hit a certain level of skill you'll develop preferences, but for the most part just about anything will work for 5A.
Just get yourself a counterweight and start experimenting. When you're ready for more structure, I'd recommend working through all of these: http://www.definitiveyoyoing.com/learn-5a -Steve

You mentioned that your large 10th anniversary product will be released at worlds. Will those not able to attend worlds have the chance to get one too?

Actually, I think Chris and I decided last night that the really big release is going to be on the actual anniversary of the first CLYW release.
So, December 4th, 2016, at 8:54 PM CST, make sure you're looking at CLYW.ca and have some room on your credit card. -Steve

What price will the Big Dipper be? I've been dying to use the 50$ Giftcard I won at DFW Open, and a high quality plastic sounds like a good idea with so many metals I have now.

$35

What's the difference between a budget metal and a high end metal yoyo?

Mostly the design. For budget metal return tops you want to design them in such a way that they take minimal machining time to create. Higher end stuff tends to have more detail and more risk in the design choices.
Also, for budget metal, there is a certain amount of vibe that is considered "acceptable" for the price range. That is almost non-existent for high-end metal. -Steve
