What's the worst thing that has happened to CLYW?
There was a point in time right around the Galactic Goose / Campfire that the company very nearly went under. Too much going on, projects were losing money, manufacturing was a b-grade nightmare with entire runs being lost to bad machining, the industry was kinda weird, and Chris was just struggling to keep up with it and find some joy in running the business. Talking to him about it, it was really touch-and-go for a little while. And it made Chris really stressed and unhappy and kinda made him not want to do this anymore. And Chris being in that state....that's the worst thing that's ever happened to CLYW. This company is fueled by creativity and joy, and if those things aren't present then there's no reason to keep doing it. And for a little while, Chris almost lost his joy.

They all accomplish the same thing in different ways. What you'll find is that at a certain level of play, you'll develop a preference. None are better/worse than the rest, they're just all very different in feel. -Steve
Why can big manufacturers give out big sales such as yyf give out crazy deals on indiegogo but smaller companies can't?
They order a lot more product, and get better pricing from the factories. Plus, learning time!

With brick and mortar retailers, the idea is to offer them something so ridiculously cheap that they have to come in and get one, in the hopes that while they are in your store they will purchase a couple of accessories or related items at regular price. It's your opportunity to reinforce a good vibe for an existing customer or possibly convert someone new to being a regular customer.
With direct sales from brands, it's a marketing expense. You sell an item at or below cost because you are trying to get market penetration because you are confident that the word of mouth will sell a lot more of them at regular price. Or you are simply trying to promote your brand with a one-off event (like this fundraiser for the YoYoFactory Adventure) and you want as many participants as possible. Or, sometimes, you're just Ben McPhee and you love yoyoing and you're totally willing to make zero dollars on something just for the fun of doing it.

First 2 years are study study study. Make sure you know how to learn. Try to find work terms during the summer, it'll help you find a job easier when you graduate. Also if you have time join the SAE team or something like that to get more experience. Email me if you have any other questions. -Chris

Yes the plastics can handle dings better. If you hit it though on rough concrete or a rock you can get tiny dings. But it's easier to replace a plastic. -Chris
