I really want to start writing about anime, but I don't have a social network to share my work on, and I don't trust my literal skills enough to start up a blog. Any idea how to proceed from here? I really want to get better at writing.

Maybe start by working on writing well constructed comments for forums or blogs you frequent? I actually just wrote stuff on reddit for a while before I created my blog, and that really helped me develop my style and see what people respond to.

Did you just coin the term 'lobotomoe'? Because it is perfect.

I actually coined it in reference to Sakurasou, but yeah.

"THAT'S OUR SAO http://i.imgur.com/BIKEVQp.jpg" What's that supposed to mean exactly?

It's a sitcom cliche to have a character do some dumb thing that's basically their catchphrase and then have another character go "OH YOU" or "THAT'S SO YOU" or whatnot. SAO pulling dumb crap like that moment is essentially its catchphrase, so I finished the bit.

Is the first season of Chuunibyou worth watching, even though the second is bad? Basically, does the first season leave you satisfied, or does it leave you wanting to continue?

The first season's a complete story. It works perfectly well on its own.

There are some complaint on how the new FSN is too much telling and too little show , but i feel what they actually complaining is that it has too much talking and too little action. What do you think?

I think the Fate universe is extremely rule-happy, and so virtually any narrative that takes place within it is going to eventually run into a big fat wall of exposition. In light of that, I actually think the new FSN has handled this handicap very gracefully - it has explained its lore in a conversation that both reflected on the characters involved and acted as a dramatic conflict in its own right. I think FSN is doing a very good job of elevating Fate's inherently awkward base variables, and I also think that there's a reasonable possibility this groundwork will pay off later on (in the same way Log Horizon pays its exposition forward in order to make later conflicts work).

"Physically unpleasant to think about" Sorry about that. I knew that you had a strong emotional reaction to the episode (and so did I) but if I had realized it was on /that/ level then I definitely wouldn't have asked the question. My apologies.

Thank you. I appreciate that.

"That's quite a response to someone saying that." Okay, sorry for the horrible wording, but I'm afraid I don't understand the reluctance. Would discussing a hypothetical less-rapey rewrite be /more/ disturbing than discussing the actual episode? Or would you just prefer not to go into hypotheticals?

When I watch something I find physically unpleasant to think about, I'll write my piece and put it behind me. That's it. No interest in returning to it, particularly not in weighing the degree of revulsion I felt at the show's actual choices versus other possible choices.

Off the top of your head, favorite quote or quote you most aspire to live up to from any form of fiction.

What is your opinion on Angel Beats?

Not a fan. I think its humor is hit or miss, it's extremely disjointed, and it doesn't really earn any of the emotional weight it strives for. Plus it's got one of the premier examples of that awful lobotomoe archetype.

What shows were the biggest pleasant surprises for you?

I dunno. Girls und Panzer, maybe? Didn't actually expect that to be any good.
It's probably Utena, actually. It's nice to see a crazy-hyped show actually be that good.

How do you think you would have rated episode 13 of SAO II if the threat in the second half had just been of murder instead of rape?

Really not interested in thinking about this.

Does writing episode reviews make you want to read others' reviews more or less?

It kinda cannibalizes the time/energy I'd spend on other people's stuff. Which isn't good, because reading other people's work is one of the best ways to learn, but I haven't figured out a balance yet.

I wasnt asking about Gargantia, i'm the WIXOSS guy, think i should create an ask account

Oh. Well, that's easy - I watched the first two episodes and didn't enjoy it and stopped watching.

Are you waiting for Parasyte episode 3 to air so you can do a episodes 1-3 essay or are you still finishing the episode 2 one?

You get both. There's an episode 2 blurb ready for next week's week in review, and then later that night I'll be posting a 1-3 piece on ANN. Everybody wins!
