Have you played Super Meat Boy? If so, did you enjoy it?

Not as much as I thought I would. It was a little loose for my liking - the character just felt too light.

Do you like Marmite?

I keep meaning to get round to trying it. I like Marmite flavour crisps, is as much as I can say at this point.

Why do you think so many celebs signed that love/ begging letter Dan Snow published to the Scottish people not to vote Yes?

Because they hadn't been asked onto Celebrity Big Brother or I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

Downfall or Das Boot ??

I'm not doing any more of these "X or Y?" things unless they're really good. But while both are great movies, "Downfall" is one of my all-time favourites. Even the endless dreadful parodies on YouTube didn't manage to ruin it.

Has David Cameron done anything good in his time as Prime Minister?

He stopped some of Labour's more heinous infringements of civil liberties, and raising the income tax threshold was a good thing in itself, even if he undid any positive effect by battering people everywhere else with VAT increases and welfare cuts. Otherwise I'm struggling.

What do you think of people like George Galloway blocking people on facebook and Twitter if the even politely disagree with him? I think it's incredibly cowardly.

Galloway's reasons are pathetic. But with the greatest of reluctance to defend that idiot in any way, if you have any sort of serious number of followers on social media you rapidly find that if you don't block people you simply don't get anything done.
It's human nature to react to abuse, and you end up getting drawn in and wasting hours and hours having the same arguments over and over with people who are never going to be won round. If you want to remain sane, a hair-trigger block policy is the only way.

Since universal suffrage, do you think there has been a majority for Scottish independence at any point?

Absolutely. By most polls there's one right now.

"The vast bulk of Scotland's "deficit" is repayments on UK debt." It's actually just interest payments as no debt has been repaid for many years. Now for a question... have you fallen out with anyone (e.g. family, friends) after finding out that they voted No?

No. My four best friends back home all voted No, but we go back far too long to be divided by politics.

I know it's still not in the bag, but does YET ANOTHER poll indicating electoral extermination for Scottish Labour next year make you a jolly wee cybernat? It's certainly got me feeling festive. :D

I remember 2011. Nice, but means nothing 20 weeks out.

The Yes campaign opened my eyes to the kind of political life I want to see - but I live in Yorkshire! There are single-issue devolution parties like Yorkshire First, but there isn't exactly an English version of the SNP. Do you think there should be, and if someone started one, would you help?

It sort of depends what you're defining as being the essential characteristics of the SNP there.

Like the WOS merchandise, especially the mugs. What is the best seller and any plans to create new items?

CafePress's interface is such an unbelievably painful chore to negotiate that I've got no plans for any new designs at the moment. There seems no way to determine what's sold best - they only give you a complete list of sales, for a maximum of 90 days back, nothing listed by product or category.

Do you think it is right that the UK Government gets to select who is head of the national broadcaster, and should it be privatised?

I think the only thing absolutely guaranteed to make the BBC worse would be to privatise it.

Do you think Alex Salmond is protecting Nicola by standing in WM election. His presence will deflect all MSM & MP attacks on him, giving a clear run for her in ScotGov

I think there'll definitely be an element of that, though I don't think it's the REASON for doing it. I think he just feels too young to put his feet up in the garden, and really fancies the very real prospect of being able to cast off some of the restrictions of statesmanship and cause some serious mischief in a hung Parliament if the SNP do get as many MPs as polls suggest, while knowing that Holyrood's in safe hands.

Re my earlier question and your response re SNP current poll ratings. If there are apparently so many NO votes who support the SNP, then those are soft persuadable and potential YES voters for Indy 2. Do you think Nicola's style as opposed to Eck's will be an important factor?

I think it might be more of a "passive" effect, in that some people who were actively put off by Salmond may not have the same reaction to Sturgeon, while all the people who liked Salmond will still vote for her. She's less obviously charismatic than him, but charisma is a double-edged sword, especially in Scotland.

If you could make up a lie to win the indyref what would it be?

That's quite a weird question. I mean, nothing's STOPPING me from making up lies, I just choose not to. But as it happens, I think the truth is by far the best tool for winning independence with. Our problem wasn't being out-argued, it was getting our arguments past the media wall and out to the public. The same would have applied to a lie.

Further to the Orkney/Shetland question and speaking as an Orcadian, I can unequivocally tell you that there is no movement in Orkney to stay part of the UK should Scotland vote for independence and anything you hear about it is just mischief. Tavish Scott is usually to blame for such scare tactics.

Can you rephrase that as a question? ;)

How can a party best vet candidates to keep sleazebags or spouse-beaters from being elected?

I'm not sure they can do more than they do now. In the case of Bill Walker, all the SNP had to go on was some unsupported gossip about stuff that happened 20 or 30 years ago. There was no police case brought at the time, so no solid evidence they could legitimately bar him on. If the mere fact of someone making an accusation was enough, nobody would ever make it through vetting for anything.

Having seen the list which places Wings at no.2 in 'most visited' amongst UK political sites, and another list on the same site which says Labour List is more 'influential', I have one question. Are Labour fans utter spammers or are Wings visitors reticent to share what they read for some reason?

The discrepancy is that one of those charts is for the whole year and one is for the last month. We were #2 on Teads in September, but have naturally slipped a bit since then, not least because we took half of October off.

Do you think there should be some kind of punishment, like perjury or treason, for politicians who tell blatant lies, which can be proved, on TV?

It would be interesting if there was some legal mechanism - not necessarily clogging the law courts, but a watchdog body of some sort - that could force politicians and parties to apologise publicly and formally for false statements, including on leaflets.
If there was an easily-accessible public register of corrections and apologies we might end up with a more honest polity. As it stands, politicians are exempt from all existing laws, and can lie with absolute impunity in a way that, say, companies can't get away with. I don't think that's defensible.

Is there any way to improve the search ability on the Wings site? I can't easily find old articles I know exist using the search bar. Perhaps due to my own tech-savvy-lessness, i'll warrant!

I'm not sure what you'd want. It's already one of the better searches I've seen, especially if you put phrases in inverted commas, but with almost 3000 posts all on broadly the same subject, it's always going to be tough to nail a particular one down if it doesn't have any unique qualities, like a memorable use of the word "pusillanimous" or something.

Are you blind to the fact that a persons political and religious beliefs do not have to go hand in glove with the football team they support?

No, but apparently a disturbing number of people are blind to words.

How do you think the MSM and Westminster politicians will attack Nicola? They can't really get away with the personal insults about appearance that they used against Alex, can they?

They already have. The Scottish Sun have gone on about her being "orange" and compared her to an ape. There'll be plenty more.

It shouldn't be too difficult to imagine a UK that is actually Better Together, after all, there are plenty of examples of minority peoples in multi-peoples states that do want to break away. But I cannot find a single sensible vision, just rubbish like the vow. Why is that? Do you know of any?

There are plenty of precedents for federal arrangements, most notably in the USA, where states have far more power than Holyrood does. Seems to work okay for them.
