honestly? you just know. i know for me, i've been in love a few times, and it's never been sudden, it sort of builds, and then one day you start talking to the person and you can barely hold yourself back from saying "i love you". when the time comes, you'll know. you'll just feel it, and it won't go away.
when and how did you realize you liked girls?
i kinda knew my whole life that i thought about girls the way that most girls thought about boys, but i didn't really confirm it to myself until 9th grade. in 9th grade i fell for my best friend, who was a girl. i got the butterflies and everything. i didn't identify as a lesbian until i was 17, by that point i had finally accepted the fact that i liked girls and didn't like boys the same way and then i was able to openly say i'm a lesbian.

opinion on moffat?
ah jeez. okay, well, to start, i know moffat is a shitty person who is incredibly sexist and problematic (/why can't he just shut his big mouth sometimes/), but - although his writing can be problematic - i do tend to enjoy it. i like sherlock despite all it's problems (and there are quite a few). his era of doctor who is my favourite (it's where i started). i'm in love with all the characters; he's written my favourite doctor and my favourite companions, and i am a huge huge fan of big plots and huge connections and just basically the kind of stuff moffat does. it can be messy and leave plot holes, but generally i do enjoy it. plus, his characters and his stories can be so fucking well-written... clara is a great example, with all her character development.. that is a whole different conversation in itself. to end this long rant, my relationship with moffat and his writing is a love/hate relationship.
