Captain Hok Hok Hok

(I actually find it rather funny. Some people think we still greet each other with "Heil Hitler", some think the berlin wall is still up and so on. I used to be upset about it, because other countries have much more problems with racists or extremists, we have a very strict law about these things by now.
So many things in our general law and so many things our politicians do are inspired by the thought of /not/ being like the third reichs regime, our federal chancellor right now, Angela Merkel, is a very plain lady, very modest, everyone is making fun about how she's boring and not pretty enough, but this trend is actually "in" because the last time we had an exciting, charming, spirited young politician, he ended up starting a world war. "Angie" is critisized for playing it safe, but that's exactly what she should do. She's not our representative after all.
Germany is one of, or maybe /the/ most social state, that's why so many refugees come here, and even though it's much more than our economy can take, the govenment doesnt dare to turn them away because if we say "okay, come on guys, we did all we can as the tiny lil patch of land that we are" everyone's gonna go all "YOU FUCKING RACIST ASSHOLES YOULL NEVER CHANGE"
I could go on and on and on about this, but in the end, I find that stereotype hilarious because people picture germany so different from what it is.
The germans, the german people I mean, were the first to suffer from that war, a lot of german soldiers fell, and I want to remind you guys, that a lot of german people fell, people who didnt care about your race or your religion or your sexuality. German citizens were deported and killed, just like the people anywhere else. It's not the germans as a nation that is to blame, it's the regime. Yes, they wanted Hitler to gain power, because he seemed to empower them, a country that had been humiliated and crushed. Hitler gave them order, he gave them confidence, jobs, a cause. Noone could know the price everyone would have to pay.
The point I'm trying to make is, our culture is /rather/ open minded right now (even tho theres still room to improve), and our people have never been any more or less racist than people anywhere else. My generation can't change anything about the shadow the regime cast on the world, I'm 19 now, my grandparents were children back then. All we can do is try to be better than they were, and by better I mean more educated, more aware of the dangers. And we are. As a country, as a people, despite all problems we /are/ getting better. I hope people can see that one day.
