Halo kak, how we react to our friend who declare that he's a gay?
Hey, thanks for your concern about this issue.
Here are some tips from UC Berkeley Gender Equity Resource Center, hope it helps :)
Do's :
1. Thank your friend for having the courage to tell you.
2. Respect your friend’s confidentiality.
3. Tell your friend you still care about them, no matter what. The main fear for people coming out is rejection.
4. Ask any questions you may have, but understand that your friend may not have all the answers.
Dont's :
1. Don’t judge your friend. If you have strong religious or other beliefs about LGBTIQ identities, keep them to yourself for now. There will be plenty of time in the future for you to think and talk about your beliefs in light of your friend’s identity.
2. Don’t be too serious. Sensitivity worded in humor may ease the tension you are both probably feeling.
