To make them more comfortable. See, there is a seam, and a ridge, at the top, of the socks. And, it cuts into the skin, causing a ridge. And, decreasing circulation, because of that. I, turn them inside out, and this makes them smooth, on the inside. Eliminating, the ridge. So, ratty but cozy, that is the way..
