I think it’s because you have 8GB ram but a chunk is automatically taken up by your operating system hence you have less that’s free
Your windows take up some of the ram its annoying however if you don't want to get a different laptop a external harddrive should do the trick
every piece of tech that has ram drivers inside them usually it will say so many rams yet only have such and such available. this is due to the pre-programmed programmes, the windows installed programme and others that are always on your tech when you buy them. all the pre-programmed programs use ram space
Yes. You may have an 8GB laptop but in order to use the applications like google chrome and dozens of background tasks the laptop uses RAM in this case and on average windows 10 uses about 2GB of RAM. RAM is instant super fast memory it’s basically a hard drive just way faster otherwise clicking a new window on ASOS would take probably 10-20 seconds to load up every click.
You can check what’s using RAM with task manager pressing (Ctrl+shift+esc) and there will be a column for ram it shows what’s using that RAM.
If you want to free up some RAM my recommendation is “razer cortex” use the “boost feature” which frees up RAM. Don’t use the clean pc feature it’s stupid. Oh it’s free.
If that’s not enough it should be for 95% of games 8GB is plenty but if not you’d have to grab a new laptop 16gb and a good graphics card is plenty.

You’d need to look at all of your specs to try and even find the problem. Your best bet is to speak to an actual expert as opposed to asking people on the internet without giving all of the information that’s needed.
