(sent on 8/8/21) if a musician or actor was outed for being ab*sive, would you still dedicate time to listening to their music/watching their acting? can an artist be separated from their art?

Well over the years there have been many artists and actors who have been outed as doing some pretty horrible things such as being abusive to their partner or just being overall weirdos in the industry. And people still supported them or listened to their music / watched their shows and so on. Look at chris brown and how many times he has been in the news articles for being abusive to his partners and while he gets backlash and hate .... he still has fans who support and listen to his music and such.

That’s a hard thing to answer, because it’s hard to just completely separate yourself from someone who was a big positive influence in your life, whether that’s as through music or movies. I think the best way to go about it is to not continue to support them in new things they do and as a person, but you can’t let what you know now affect the positive memories you’ve had from things they’ve done that weren’t bad?
I mean people still listen to Chris Brown. He made a very bad mistake. I don't think it's something he continues to do. But if it was something they kept doing then I would stop.
You mean like Marilyn Manson?
Here’s a thing about his music because I still listen to it, I knew who the motherfucker was before he was outed. So did the rest of the world, yet they want to pretend as though they had no idea who he was when it was shown when he first debuted.
Someone like R. Kelly, here’s the thing with him- I never followed what he did in his personal life or what he did outside of music. But he makes great music. Made**.
So I am able to separate an artist from his real life.
