How could a whole family turn against their own family member for falling in love with an 18 year old girl, just because he's 48? I thought age was just a number. Like nothing was done illegal, if waited til she was 18, correct? Love is love
Probably because most people would understand "waiting" for her to be 18 means the intention was there. Usually that involves older individual, whether subconsciously or not, using grooming techniques, setting a frame work where everyone else is the problem or conspiring against them, etc. It also speaks volumes about the 48 year old. They can't find a drunk college aged individual? It's a matter of time before it collapses; no 48-18 couple made it into the "twilight of their years" the younger one eventually realizes what a mistake they made. Those are a couple of reasons pick your favorite I suppose.

Yes. A few times. Even had to "take one for the team" and ended up with a broken nose .
