“Why did you keep silent? Why didn’t you show grief?” They love judging, questioning, and social media is the new place for exercising pressure. That’s exactly why I stopped using social media.There are people who can’t stand without misleading others, bringing people to burn each other, without caring about anything or anyone. “Are these chaotic elections more important than people’s lives? Please don’t target anyone anymore” …That night, I was begging. Because I felt that the political leaders were increasingly hardening their speech, which was having a destructive effect on people.
That night, on TV, I saw a father of 5 children being wrapped like a mummy. I couldn’t sleep all night… Could you?... That’s when I wrote
that message; I was feeling a lot of pain. Below my message a fight
started and in order to stop the fight I removed the message. I don’t care if some people say I removed it because I got scared.
That’s where the issue of me being a terrorist started. Since the Gezi events, every person using a political language during a civil protest
is being designated as a terrorist, that’s why I didn’t take it too seriously.
The only reason why a political party’s name appeared in one of my messages is because that innocent man who was burned alive while exercising his job was a HDP minibus driver. I never revealed to whom I voted, never made any propaganda for any political party, politics are not my job anyway. But I certainly have my personal opinions, and I have the right to criticize the politicians that are representing us and taking decisions in our name whenever it is necessary.
Today you’re telling me “Stop doing your job you traitor”. Me being –according to the news- the highest female taxpayer of the country,
you’re certainly not giving me the medal of patriotism, but it is my most basic right to check whether these taxes are being spent on
making a school desk for a child, or whether they are being spent on personal pleasures. For this reason I used my voting right. And in the name of democracy I was glad we got out of the elections with more
parties represented in the parliament, and non-monopolized politics
I was in Copenhagen; I took a picture of a mother swan carrying her 2 babies on her back. They started insulting me saying that I was making allusions to the political coalition, I made fun of them for a while but then I realized that everything that happened during and after the
elections has taken the social media taste away from me.
So I decided to stop using Instagram until it goes back to being what it was made for: Sharing nice pictures. I never thought it was necessary to organize a press conference for this issue. During that period of time I never used Twitter neither, multiple fake accounts were spreading anger and fury. We are legally pursuing some of them, we reported some of them, but it is impossible to stop this.
