Have you ever seen the TV show "The Strain"? (like walking dead with vampires, not the twilighty kind)

I have not. I've heard it's bad. I should take a look at it though.

Have you ever been surprised by finding out someone you know was playing one of your games?

Not so much by people I know, but people I look up to for sure. I recently had Brad Muir (designer Iron Brigade / Trenched) from Double Fine tell me that he'd played a bunch of my older games. The designers at Treyarch played the early Last Stand games and have said that it influenced the Zombies mode in Call of Duty. That sort of thing.
Also had a few random encounters with people who have heard of or played my games. It still spins me out.

In your eyes, what makes a good raid? Downing ten survivors and looting the fuel gen only or Downing none (nobody home or suppressed only) and looting everything?

A good raid is what you want it to be, that's kind of the intent. Want to go in and down their survivors, great. Want to smash some barricades and steal resources, awesome. Want to go in and ninja a flag, perfect.

Any type of location you're leery about doing as a mission type in TLS:DZ? (i.e. schools)

Yeah, we actually were building a school location when Sandy Hook happened. We obviously pulled the plug on it and it's made me consider our location choices a little more.

Oh hey Con, Just wondering, What's your Opinion on #GamerGate?

You shouldn't care about what enthusiast press thinks. Reviews and scores don't matter, especially today when you can pretty much watch someone run through an entire game on YouTube and make your own decisions. Glad handing and social connections is just part of the business world and there's always been and always will be a bleed between the two.
With games, as you should with any other product, make up your own mind.
As for the levels it got to with the harassment and the specific targeting of individuals during the process, most of them women, is disgusting. No one deserves that.

Have you looked at reducing compound protection times to compensate for the halved raid return times?

Yep, we'll be experimenting with shorter auto protection next war round.

since what i've seen here is pretty much a showcase on flash itself, i'm not sure if it's possible to add weather effects such as rain to affect the survivors capabilities on how they cope with outdoor maps.

Thanks!
We did talk about it, but it's mostly down to our camera angle. It's hard to make precipitation look good when you're using a fairly strict isometric angle like ours.
We also didn't want to add something that was potentially crippling to computers, especially if it had an effect on gameplay.

Have you ever test raided a Legion or LXS compound? How did it go?

I have. It's gone ok in some cases and not so great in others. Spawn traps are nasty.

There has been some disagreement a while back in the The Last Stand Wiki with the naming pool of the uniques (The main admins there thought some names were weapon-class specific). Could you confirm if the naming pool for unique is the same for all weapons?

Uniques are named randomly from a pool of primary and secondary names.
Rares are a bit different, they have their own pools based on the weapon or gear type.

The big question: AK Series or AR-15 Series.

I've always been partial to the design of the AR-15's. But, the newer AK's are looking nicer and I'm sure that performance wise they're better.
Haven't shot either though. Gun laws here in Australia are pretty tough, thankfully.

How did Con Artist Games come to exist and how did you guys choose your code names?

It started with me. I left my old advertising job and started working from home making games full time. Did that for 3 years, then convinced Steve and Lisa to jump on board. Sev, Tom and Simon followed over the next 3 years. So we've been going for 6 years now technically!
Code names? Con and Sev is what you're talking about I assume. They're our real life nicknames, no one really calls us anything else.

Any chance of us seeing schematics for high level guns and gear any time soon? I'd love to be able to craft an M60 with APS, suppression and range, for example!

This is something I've been meaning to get around to. The entire last batch of weapons doesn't have schems yet. Might try and look at that this week.

Sometimes, months pass without the players really knowing what's going on? Any thoughts on making a Weekly devnote for us to read (w/o the top secret stuff of course)? Or maybe add like a single mid-to-low level weapon to keep collectors busy. Lastly, Do you prefer US, Euro or JDM cars (or Utes)?

Yeah, it's a tricky balance for us. I don't know if you've noticed but any time we announce anything it results in flipped tables and forum speculation out the wah-zoo.
We're working on the Halloween update at the moment.

Do all of the 'names' (eg. Chuck, Barry, Darnell) for Unique weapons come from people you know or things you like? (I always thought 'Barry' might refer to Barry Burton from Resident Evil)

All the names you mentioned were characters from Last Stand: Union City. The only other names in there are people on the Con Artist Games team.

Do you listen to heavy metal?

Slayer, Metallica, Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, Genghis Tron, Leather Nun, Clutch, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Greenmachine, The Sword and Mastodon. Does that count?

Another question or more of a request. Please add a shopping cart to the store. It's so annoying to have to log into paypal, refresh the game to make sure the transaction went through and repeat.

Yep. Totally understand that. The back end payment system for Dead Zone doesn't allow for it. If there's any bundles of items that you commonly buy, I'd be happy to hear what they are.

Could you possibly add an auto max button for item upgrading? Same fuel cost as it normally would to be to max upgrade a weapon level by level but just that more convenient for the players who like to upgrade hundreds of items at once.

Really not sure how often that'd get used...

How do you envisage raiding should be? It seems you dislike LR and one-sided wonders. What guns and/or compound defences would you prefer people used?

Variety. That's all I want.
I want a larger amount of weapon and tactical options to be viable. It makes it way more interesting for people when that's the case.

What is the approximate ratio of raiders to non raiders? And within that, what is the ratio of people in an alliance, and those who are solo?

I can't give you exact numbers but to give you an idea, on average, last month each player did 0.16 raids each. Less than 1 raid for the entire month. That should give you an idea of the size of the raiding community. It's relatively small.
As for alliance numbers. There's a boatload of solo alliances, it's hard to tell how many were created and are still active or are recruiting.

Would you consider allowing players to change their name once (like stats or banner)? Some of us screw up when creating profile at the very beginning without knowing that it's not modifiable afterwards.

No. It's something that we've had to take a stand on early. It causes way too many issues with people switching identities etc.
If your name in game is offensive though, let us know and we'll change it for you before you get banned.
