question for people with cats ONLY. if you have multiple cats, do they all share the litter box? google says you have to get as many as there are cats plus an extra one. but that's not possible for me. i don't live in a palace, sadly.

Mine have one each but they do tend to use the same one. They go out in the day so it’s just for night time or rainy days when they don’t want to go outside 😅

I have 2 cats who have 2 litter trays, one cat has started going outside while the other doesn’t stray far too much due to his age. I am thinking of replacing their litter trays and then adding an extra one. I do not live in a palace but I will try to accommodate them with their toileting needs.
I used to have 3 cats, as when we got the girl, she came with her 2 brothers. However, she didn't get on with them so we had to rehome the boys.
For the short period that we had all 3, we had 2 litter trays I think, because the boys shared.
And I live in a tiny flat😅
You need one litter box per cat at least and if you can't afford that, or don't have room please don't have more cats than that.
It can cause them serious problems if they don't have clean litter boxes every week and having one box for multiple cats is not good for them AT ALL.
I have 2 cats, and I don't have much room in my flat but I've made it work because they need 2 trays and I wanted 2 cats.
All of my cats have shared a litter tray. They will be quite fussy about it being kept clean though. If you struggle to find a litter tray big enough, then i've always used large plastic storage boxes with a circle cut into one side. 👍😺😺😺
We have 2 litter boxes for our 3 cats and that works for us as our cats mostly get along fine. I have 2 girls and a boy, one of the girls keeps to herself and she mainly uses one tray whilst the other 2 use the other tray more often. If you have more than 2 cats you seriously should have at least 2 litter trays, and if you have more than 4 cats you should have at least 3. If you don’t have room for more than 1 litter tray then you don’t have room for more than 2 cats.
