What is your favorite story your parents told you?

When I was 6 years old I used to play in the sandpit all the time and get sand in my hair. Then I'd get my hair wet in the rain. It used to really piss my mum off because it took forever to wash the sand out of my hair. So she told me that if I get my hair wet while there's sand in there then those sand granules will turn into nits.
I believed her until last year when my friends sat me down and told me that my childhood was a lie because sand + water ≠ nits

What's the absolute best vacation you can imagine?

I have no imagination. Nothing. Zilch. If I did I would be writing stories and dreaming up worlds where the sun never sets. Instead I'm stuck writing fucking haikus about crap that doesn't make any sense :))

If you were really hungry, really exhausted, AND really gross, what would you do first — eat, nap, or shower?

Nap, obviously. I can dream about the rest. Isn't dreaming the whole point of life? #amorbidviewontheworldbykaddy

Teen Wolf? It's awesome too! ❤❤❤

I watched the first episode and couldn't hack it :( But I'm all for The Vampire Diaries xx

My English teacher. There isn't a person more compassionate and empathetic. I still feel like I'm dreaming every time I walk into my class because I can't believe that gems like her actually exist. She reminds me so much of Miss Honey from Matilda :')

Are you applying to oxford with a specific major in mind?? It sound lit related

The way the system works here means that you have to pick a major before you apply. Sucks... I think the American system is way better. I'm gonna miss doing physics and maths so much. But yes, I applied to do English Language and Literature :)

Hahaha omf Kaddy no way! Did the grizzly bear not ask for identification? I got my second piercing this summer (redone) but I can't wait to get a nose one THIS year like seriously. Cannot wait. How much did the septum hurt?

G'luck to you ? i have sworn to never get a piercing again. in fact, i've become so terrified of needles that i passed the fuck out the last time a doctor tried to prick me with a needle.
the grizzly bear didnt ask for identification. just my address and email. i wrote down my older sister's details. lmao. i remember asking him "is it gonna hurt?" and he said "no." with so much certainty that i didnt even expect a tiny prick... man... i think i screamed the whole street down when he put the needle in.

Justin Bieber's new album is so lit. Have you guys listened to it? It's the closest I've ever had to a religious experience (except for that one time I saw Taylor Swift live and she smiled at me a dozen times).

what's the dumbest thing you ever did

When I was a budding (fucking stupid) 16 year old, I walked into a tattoo parlour, lied that I wasn't underage, and asked this grizzly bear of a man to stick a needle through my septum. Needless to say, I haven't smelt anything properly for three years now. My sense of smell is so fucked up. Also, every once in a while when I sneeze I'll have a heart attack when a metal ring just flips down and waves "Remember me, bitch?"

i'm supposed to be preparing a creative writing portfolio for Warwick but everything I thought was good makes me want to cry innl frustration bc I've read so much great stuff since writing those stories but I dont have the skills to write in that way and I just feel like I've outgrown my old style but since I havent been writing lately I dont have a new style.... oh god... im having a writer's existential crisis!! i forgot how to write!!!!!

Who are you going with to the wattpad loncon? :)

decided not to go. i have so much schoolwork piling up and my first mock exam is in 3 days and i need to get my shit together asap :(

aww Kaddy I swear it doesn't sound horrid enough to warrant crying :-( And even if it was - so what?? If Oxford doesn't let you in (and they will, trust me), it means that they literally gave up the best thing that could have ever happened to them so honestly - they should be crying ;-)

awwww thanks, zee ❤❤ i think my emotions are way too heightened. i feel homesick and uncomfortable here and it's making me devalue the whole experience. it takes me a lot longer than everyone else to feel at home in new places. but the interviews were definitely enjoyable. i learnt so much, and i'm happy that the first interview went so well. hopefully it will compensate for the second one :)

AAAH WHAT HAPPENED?? FOR THE FIRST AND THE SECOND I MEAN im so glad about the first and honestly i bet the other one wasnt nearly as bad as u think xx & thank you so much, I need all the luck I can get :-)

heroeic’s Profile Photozee
The first interview was very engaging. I was given two poems to analyses and it was straight-forward and relatively easy. The two admission tutors led me lead the conversation so I just repested the notes I'd previously made and they'd occasionally pipe in with a comment. Afterwards they picked out points on my personal statement and we discussed the relevance of oral literature in the digitally driven, modern culture. It was so awesome to be able to discuss my interests with people who genuinely wanted to hear what I had to say.
The second interview followed the same format, the undergraduate helpers fucked up big time. They gave me the wrong interview time so I got very little time to analyse the extract. I managed well, I guess. But I was still thrown bc I'd nearly missed the entire interview. Then one of the tutors started grilling me on Shakespearean sonnets and I kept stumbling because everything I said sounded so stupid. aaaaahhhh... the worst part of it all was they asked me the most dumb, most generic question of all time: "Why do you want to read English at Oxford?" I mean, clearly I want to bc I applied and my personal statement clearly indicates my reasons why. I felt like they were asking me recycled questions that weren't relative to the subject but were more general--something they'd asked every other interviewee. It just didnt feel as personal as the first interview. Either way, I cried for an entire hour after that, then went to bed and cried for a bit more after I woke up.

can you give me some examples please? (oh high fantasy lit)

- A Song of Ice and Fire (this is the Game of Thrones series...SOOOOOOO AWESOME. my favourite ever series of all time.)
- Lord of the Rings
- The Name of the Wind
cant think of anymore right now but just google high fantasy and a bunch of them will come up. they're all based on a medieval landscape with mythical and magical elements. very cool :)

so i'm having a bit of a trouble. my as history course has 2 modules, 1 i keep getting As at and one i keep getting Cs. i tried to improve & talk to the teachert but no matter what i do the other teacher'd still give me a C. What should I do?

I think you should back to this teacher and ask them to give you tips on how to improve. Keep bugging them to help you bc at the end of the day they are being paid money to give you the best education they can offer. If that fails then try to find some resources online. Look up past papers and read model answers. See how other students have managed on that module.
Don't settle for anything less than you deserve. If you want that A, go and get it. I have high hopes for you. You're so bright and capable and determined. Don't let that teacher get the best of you! xx

You go, girl. I have complete faith in you. Put in the effort and time, and you'll hopefully do very well x

heyyy so for gcses we have more subjects and i feel like we had more workload, so is it wrong that i feel as level's workload is quite light so far?

Not at all. At my secondary school we were only allowed to pick 3 extra subjects to the compulsory 5. The highest number of gcses anybody had was 9, so the workload seemed light.
Just make sure you dont get too complacent. Study hard if you want to get those grades :)

i'm such a loner in school I never know what to do during my frees or at lunch. Suggestions?

I've always found making friends quite difficult, but if you put in the effort to keep a conversation going then it gets easier. The problem is where do you go to make friends? I think at this stage it's best for you to join a club because then you can use that common interest to strike a conversation. Or you can partner up with a person in your class and ask them if they want to hang out in the common room before the next lessons.
Tbh I've always preferred my own company. And during my frees I study and finish all my homework so that when I get home I can just chill and relax. But not everyone feels comfortable being alone so I understand why you might not like it.
Just act confident and natural and be sensitive to people's belief. Friendships form naturally, and whatever happens you'll be okay x

Okay so if Bio, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Literature, which one's the risky grade? I feel like maths was easy but not so much when one question holds like 4 marks. We don't have AS ? We have to give everything together in A2! Pain in my ass I tell you.

Oh wow... All of those subjects are relatively straightforward. Personally, I find Physics really hardest but it's my favourite subject and I enjoy it so much. Don't think about dropping any of them right now... I really believe that you can do it! All you have to do is give each subject time and attention and keep a disciplined timetable so the workload will be spread out instead of clumped together. Last minute cramming won't get you very far.

I DON'T KNOW?? Like, our school has compulsory 4 (which in the end 80% girls drop so they're left with three anyway), and I took five but the CIEs in the end get real tough cause you have to do past papers and books and notes and I'm feeling the burden now lol.

Everyone takes 4; I get that part. But taking 5 is a bit much. Getting AAAA is way better than getting something like ABCDD (which is what I ended up with for AS).
Take care of yourself. If you feel the stress taking over your life, I'd advise you to drop the subject you find the hardest. If you can handle 5 then go for it. It'll make your university application shine a little more (but it won't put you above anybody else who meets the entry requirements).

oh my GOD literally your thoughts about Lauren Oliver are just about EXACTLY mine (also lol hi how're you doing??)

heroeic’s Profile Photozee
Lauren Oliver is the greatest! She knows teenage minds better than most teenagers.
I'm doing fine, thanks. I have my first interview for a university tomorrow and I'm bricking it. I have the WORST communication skills ever. I really hope they see through my nervousness and realise that I'm deserving of a place. Fingers crosssed. UCL is fiercely competitive, so even getting an interview is a milestone for me.
How are you faring? Hope all is okay with you :) xx

How do you come up with blurbs for your books? For some reason I've always struggled there, I don't know how to condense and summarise my thoughts

I am the WORST at blurbs. I never do them, and when I have no choice they come out pretty dreadful

KADDYY oh my GOD I sooooo understand where you are with the A Levels thing especially FIVE! This is my first year and I took 5 as well, I have mids in two days and I realise I HAVE NOT MANAGED TO STUDY AT ALL! I'm having a major "Oh fuck" moment and I'm cramming Chemistry while fighting sleep. HI!

You are INSANE. Five a-levels? Either you're out of your mind or you're the next Einstein. I mean, if you're capable then go for it! :D but if you're struggling then remember than every uni only asks for 3 A2 subjects.

i relate to what you said so much. sometimes late at night and i feel an inspiration, i write to forget my problems. now that i'm in a steady place, there's no need to write anymore. hope all is well with you xx

Everyone writes for a different reason. I used it as an emotional outlet just like you did, and now I'm in a good place. I'm really happy that you feel better now ❤❤

Where do you think people fail the most when studying A Levels? Congrats on the letter from Oxford!

Thank you so much! I'm still in shock but it's nice to know that universities don't discriminate against people who have repeated a year, even the prestigious ones.
I think everyone has their own reasons for failing. Some pick the wrong subjects. Some don't manage their time well. Some have family circumstances that keep them preoccupied. It's hard to pinpoint a single reason why an individual would fail an A-Level. Most of us understand the content but it's the workload that throws us. I made the mistake of trying to balance 5 A-Levels and maintain a hectic and unhealthy social life.

Haha thank you but no girl is flawless ☺ what will my flaws be?

this is the kinda question that gives me a headache... i've never made a human before. how should i know what flaws they have?
(i've been tryna come up with an answer for this for 5 minutes now and i have nothing.)
