I want to get excited about VR, but I get motion sickness occasionally from some games, particularly FPSs. Have you ever felt it while playing? If not, do you have friends that have that problem? How have they learned to deal with it? Have developers figured out ways to help prevent that?

Oh gosh, yeah. Devs are working on ways to make it more comfortable, but if you're sensitive to it I would start very slowly and take a while to get comfortable. Some games are easier to play than others, so it's just a matter of finding your personal tolerances.

going to game dev with 3 kids, bad idea? Thoughts on where the games industry will be in a year?

It will certainly be harder. As for where we'll be in a year? I don't know, I hope we have some retail VR devices out there, and I'd love to be completely surprised by some new games I've never heard of. We'll see!

thoughts about balancing professional life and family?

It's frickin' hard and I'm pretty bad at it, as my wife and kids would probably tell you. I struggle with it often. This job will take up every bit of time you're willing to give it.

What's your favorite kind of person to meet for the first time at a convention, conference, or general industry event?

Someone who is doing something I find interesting and has time to tell me about it. :-)

What does it cost to make a game? I always see how expensive it is for both indie studios and AAA, but what's the general cost if I just make it myself? I don't know anything about it and find it fascinating.

Um, it depends on the game. You can make a super simple game by yourself in a day or two. You can also spend years on design and tweaking. It really depends. The golden rule for making anything is this: It will take much longer than you think, and cost much more than you expect.

Loved your encouraging gamers to exercise, it is so important! How is your exercise regimen going? Any fitness goals for 2015?

It's going terribly, it's hard to find time and I've slacked off and it bums me out. I need to get back on my schedule. In terms of goals? I'd love to lose about ten pounds and get my arms a bit bigger and the gut a bit smaller.

Do you like games like doodle jump?

I thought Doodle Jump was fun. It's also in every arcade, they made a big redemption machine.

Grappling with a story; help me out here. When covering a subject who has committed an unethical act, how do you weigh the severity of that act and a moral/journalistic obligation to expose it, against the effect your story itself might have on people's lives, well-being, peace-of-mind, etc?

It's impossible to make that kind of call without knowing the particulars, sorry. There are about a million variables.

Ben, I've forgotten how to cook because my brain is now filled with Hearthstone decks. Can you come to my house and make me some pancakes?

No thanks, I have enough pancake eaters over here.

How did you break into Games Media? I ask this to all journalists as it's a career I'd like to land after college.

Scroll down through the history, I've told this story a few times.

What's your current Crossy Road high score? Also, you rock. Keep on being awesome! :D

It's pretty low, like 150. Thanks, you're pretty great too!

So Blizzard currently reigns supreme in the MMO and RTS spaces, and arguably ARPG as well. They're well on their way to owning the CCG space as well. Do you think they'll succeed similarly with their MOBA and Team Shooter offerings?

Heroes of the Storm is AMAZING, it's the game my friends and I play most every night. Well, THEY play every night and I try to get the kids to sleep to join them. I don't know if it will dominate, but it's just as good as Hearthstone in my opinion, and I LOVE Hearthstone. I think they're on a roll.

I read Dune because you were raving about it (and I'm a big sci-fi fan). I thought it was OK at best. What did I miss?

Time. Give it a bit to stew and maybe try again in a year. It's a slow burn.

... that 'my wife' answer. That's what I love about you, Ben. That response was cheesy as hell, but I know it's also true and heartfelt. No question here, just complimentary commentary.

RE: Nerf reviews - have you ever considered doing an interview with one of those customizer folks who upgrade the hardware to make it stronger/tougher/more reliable?

Yep, it's a cool subculture.

Speaking of Egypt, how long has it been since your last shisha?

Like 8 years, it's a habit that leads to burn marks on the floor and isn't great around kids. I miss it!

If you had the time, energy and patience to pick up an MMO (a long shot of imagination, I know) - which one, of the current ones on the market, would you consider your top pick?

EVE Online. I would love to dive in and really try to make my mark on that world. I think it's super-interesting, and I can't wait to read Andrew Groen's book.

What's your favorite place abroad (of course that you've been to)?

Reykjavik is amazing. Egypt was also great, but I'm not sure that's a safe trip these days.

I haven't had a good family gaming around the couch experience since PS2, and it was a staple of my NES/SNES/Genesis days. I'd like to set one up. If I don't want to play multi-player online, what am I missing, and is it primarily on XBOne or PS4? WiiU has the Nintendo franchises, of course.

I would go to a big site, look up the reviews section, and see which system has the most games you want to play. Your question is SUPER broad, but the secret is just pick the system with the most games you want to buy. The rest is noise
