Trying to resist the "I hope so" answer (damn it!)... It depends. You can't just have hope by itself, it has to be attached to something (or everything). I do have hope for many things, but I prepare to have hope dashed. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

It's not very likely I'll go anywhere for vacation this year.

I was never one for pickup lines. I just introduced myself and asked them a question about something current or relevant to the situation we were in (i.e. are the nachos any good here, do you know where their house brew coffee is grown, do you know where I can find a book on *topic*...).
