This is such a good question. Superhero implies a responsibility - it's not "someone with powers" but "super HERO". Sure the question allows me to pick whatever powers I want, but with it comes a responsibility that, whilst noble, is way above the level I'm capable of dealing with. I'd be literally trying to save lives - so what happens if I fail? What happens if I fail to save lives? How could I cope with that kind of pressure.
Being a wizard may not be as glamorous for some people, but it's still a huge amount of power to wield and without the responsibility. I mean, sure I would still try to be responsible with my power, but at least I wouldn't feel so trapped by my power.
