Dating in my world is like hanging out with a friend except instead of a group it you and someone who you like haven't been on many myself if I'm honest but in my opinion this is what a date is and it's so you can learn more about the other person and grow a stronger bond before the the next step
Date is going out with a significant other You ask someone out who is interested in going out, or the other way around. You know when you ask them out for a date and they agree and same on their end.You like the significant other and admire their company.
