If milk were black or differently colored, would it cease to be milk? In other words, is being white in color a necessary condition, among various other necessary conditions, for something to be milk?

No, I think it's the taste.
You know when you want to drink milk and put strawberries in it, you just have to wait and soon the milk will adapt to the colour of the strawberries. Same with cocoa. But it still tastes like milk but is flavoured with fruit or chocolate. milk is just yummy in nearly every colour. haha. xD It's just sad that it's not that healthy for adults but for kids it stays healthy.
