What is the ruling on giving tips to restaurant workers, waiters, barbers, über drivers? JAK
Anyone who works should have a livable wages. In a 2016 US consumer report, the national average of tipped wages was less than $2.5 an hour.
Basically, it's never been a show of gratitude. The more you tip, the less the employer gives them money.
Economically speaking, the concept of tips is a disgusting hallmark to capitalism.
What can you do? Everytime you have an opportunity to speak to a manager, express your displeasure with tipping and ask them to pay their employees fairly.
And yes, definitely continue on tipping. It is not only a Sadaqa, but also eligible to count as Zakat.
