Most of the Bible writers did not see Christ, especially Paul. In order to know Paul's personality, see his letters, especially his letter to the Corinthians. Let us leave Christianity if you want, and talk about atheism.
None of the people who actually wrote the bible were eyewitnesses - like, any part of it. Paul comes the closest in time, and claims that his vision was of the risen Jesus, some 25-ish years later (around 58 or 59 CE).
