legit/legitimate? sentence usage?
"Legit" is informal, so we wouldn't use that in formal writing: Man, your explanation ain't legit.
"Legitimate":
- John is the legitimate heir to the throne.
- The teacher will accept only legitimate reasons for being late to class.
"Legitimate":
- John is the legitimate heir to the throne.
