Did you know that recycling was a hoax? That its just there to make you feel goog about yourself as all your plastic bottles end up in struggling foreign countries like Malaysia turning their living enviroments into trash heaps? How does that make you feel? Knowing youre wasting your time recycling
Okay, this isn’t entirely true.
It IS true that a lot of waste is exported to other countries. Originally it was sent to China because China would BUY it from countries like the US and the U.K., but China recently decided nah, so it’s instead being sent to countries like Malaysia. This is because they have many cheaper waste/recycling centers there. However, many of their recycling centers were unlicensed and illegal, and they got shut down, which is why trash is now building up. They are currently working on sending most of the waste back to the original counties.
The kicker here though is that the waste being sent is NON-RECYCLABLE waste and plastics (since not all plastic can be recycled).
To say that recycling is a hoax is a stretch. My small state alone has several functioning recycling centers. I’ve literally been to one. The issue is that most people don’t know how to recycle correctly (which plastics can’t be recycled, plastic soda bottles need to be rinsed, etc), which is how they end up being waste.
And if this meant to be some woke take on how we don’t eliminate waste property, that’s not news. The entire world is a goddxmn disaster. They are literally ISLANDS of trash floating in the Pacific Ocean. If we educated ourselves and recycled PROPERLY we’d reduce this footprint by even a little bit.
And several states are eliminating single-use plastics anyway.
