hijo de la luna ;

i’ve always drawn, ever since i was little! i didn’t really get to see my parents a lot growing up (my mom was a doctoral student and my dad worked a 5am-7pm job [including his commute into that time frame lol it was a 6-5 job])so it just seemed like. instinctive to me to draw so i could leave my parents “notes” (drawings) and we would communicate that way, especially since i was too young to like actually write notes.

also not to sound like i’m on a high horse or like i’m an elitist or anything but it’s just a genuine understanding that while yes, art is a talent that can be gained after practice, it’s also something that some people are just inherently born with (goes for any art btw- drawing, music, painting, sculpting, storytelling, baking, design, etc.) and i am very blessed for drawing being my god-given talent. like that sounds pompous asf for a fucking semi-realistic semi-anime furry digital artist, i’m aware, but for understanding’s sake i am very technically skilled and i got 99% of that from my own, not from any sort of formal class or instruction or anything. i actually went through a rebel phase where i PURPOSEFULLY drew badly so i could “unlearn” realism/technical skill bc i wanted to be an anime artist lmao. obvi that did not work out bc realism creeped back into my artstyle :”)

but uh, yeah. always. if i had to put a guess on it i’d say 2. i know i learned to draw before i learned to walk, so yeah. one of my favourite drawings is one i did when i was just shy of my 4th birthday, it was a portrait of my dad and like i mean it’s absolutely phenomenal for a 4 year old, it’s meh for an adult but i mean... children don’t hold back, so that bitch is so CLEARLY my dad like wrinkles, scars, his mole, receding hairline— like i did NOT facetune him the way i would now but that’s why i love it. like i drew my dad exactly as he was because that’s the guy i loved and look up to (still is, i am def a daddy’s kid lol). he actually has carried around that picture in his wallet since the day i made it, it’s faded and creased but if you open his wallet thats the first thinf you see :”). he also has a pic of a horse i drew in his closet bc i drew it to thank him for building a shelf in my room after a long day at work,,,, i was like 6 for that one. my grandma has a pic i drew of her, myself & my bro from when i was... 16? in her room, and my mom has a bunch of shitpost drawings in her office ??? oops i luv her dont get me wrong but she gets all my shitposts (literal posts too ffbshjs theyre always drawn on post its & like. hotel notepads and shit fhjjajsjakka)

all this rambly bs aside i dont think it matters when one starts drawing as long as you practice. drawing is a talent you can be born with, yes, but you can also CHOOSE to have it by working hard & practicing. even “natural” artists have to practice & have weaknesses!!!
