Have you ever been told by someone other than that of your own race that you're hot for a Malay guy? Do you think that such compliments are backhanded?
The first time someone said 'For a Malay guy you're quite hot.' I was 15/16 and it came from a straight best friend. That has been stuck in my mind every since. 'For a Malay guy'?
I believe if you're hot, you're hot. Regardless of racial make up. When you're hot, who cares what race you are! Wait, then again, I still won't go for hot Caucasian males (sorry!).
And yes non-Malays have complimented me a few times that I'm hot - for a Malay guy. I take it for what it is, I guess. I just tell them they're cute... for now, when they're young.
I wouldn't see it as backhanded. Many people don't really understand the weight of their words. And there's always the possibility of reading too much into another person's words. So I let it go.
