Ever been catfished?

I was in a skype chat back in like,,,,,2016, I think? it was for k-pop fans on a forum website.
we had a guy in the chat called snobbycoffeeasian who was supposedly from south korea. he had to work and was gone most of the time, especially with timezones, but we were all so excited to talk to him every time he popped in! he was like the dad of the chat, one of the og members. he seemed so cool. I looked up to him a lot.
if I remember correctly, he exposed himself when he gave us a phone number / linked a phone number to his skype account. turns out that he was actually a girl from michigan, and she was using her (ex?) boyfriend's pictures to catfish us.
she apologized, said she regretted doing it, and stayed friends with a few of the people there, but I cut ties because she lied to us and couldn't be trusted. last I saw, she was back under the name thatcoffeeboi ??? but I'm not sure if she's still catfishing, though.
after that, we were all very anxious and didn't want to let anyone else into the chat, but someone insisted on their friend joining us. so we let him in.
he was an older guy called eunkyung, supposedly going to college in california. he was co-workers with someone called kim jongdae in the chat. we were suspicious and didn't feel like his story was adding up, but a lot of people thought he was hot and got a crush on him so they turned a blind eye, including me pffft. we ended up fighting over it, it split our friend group in half, and the chat died.
a year or two later, I found out from a mutual friend that eun was indeed catfishing us the whole time. he had pictures of himself on his desktop and accidentally showed them during a stream. dude was another girl. not even the same girl! we were catfished by two different people.
remember kim jongdae, eun's "co-worker"? it was her. she was inspired by snobby to catfish us for attention. she deleted the eunkyung account and hasn't been active since 2019.
lesson learned, maybe don't trust strangers on the internet.
